Justin.TV to Testify in Congress about Live Feed Piracy

From Techcrunch.com ... http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/12/15/justin-tv-piracy/

Quote:

one of the most popular live webcasting services on the net, will be testifying in a hearing held by the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow morning. The topic of the hearing: the future of live online sports broadcasting.

We got hold of the startup?s written and oral testimony, which Justin.tv hopes will be enough to convince the Committee that the nature of live video broadcasting makes it impossible for them to avoid copyrighted content from ending up on the site, whether it?s live sports or other content like TV shows.

Ultimately, Justin.tv calls on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which they claim should provide them with a safe harbor for copyright-infringing content that appears on the website before they or the appropriate right owners get a chance to remove it.
This should be interesting....

I can't get center ice, or Game HD in my area. I can't get out of market games - so instead I watch Justin.tv for my Canuck games.

The providers aren't making it easy or a "deal" enough to get their services or I would just buy it. I tried, but I can't. So I guess I will rely on pirating services.

This is my biggest issue. I have Time Warner Cable and they don't carry HDNet anymore, which carries a ton of MMA programming that I watch. They also don't carry the NFL Network, nor do they carry any type of NFL package where I can watch Dolphins games (I'm in Ohio so I get stuck with the Bengals and Browns). I am going to watch HDNet MMA programming and I am going to watch the Dolphins games every week. I would prefer to pay for it as I do during MLB season with the baseball package and Marlins games, but I am not buying a satellite dish again and dealing with their shoddy service and reception issues. So if Time Warner Cable is going to keep dropping channels over bullshit pricing disputes then I am going to find a way to watch what I want to watch...

Indeed. They do act fast though. I've seen streams killed in 5 minutes, relocated and killed again. So they comply for sure. So, as you said, "This should be interesting...."

Just an oddball question, but can you stream PPV UFC fights through the net at the moment?

This is about the only thing I stream live. The occasional UFC event that i can't order on PPV due to being away from home.

Not to say I'd run out and pay for the PPV online, I'd probably still hit the free streams. If I'm paying I liek to se the fight on a good screen. I'm just curious if it is even an option..
