Pawn stars tv show

saw this last night...

if only the business was like that

reality is you're dealing with people tweeking or panicking cause they gambled too much who stole the stuff and you're both trying to figure out if you can sell it and not get caught

Pawn Stars and Jersey Shore are my two sin shows

EscortBiz 01-08-2010 12:14 PM

based on a episode and obviously this is TV, it seems they work on 25% or so margins some months less i guess some more

i'm thinking that's a ways from reality and they just want you to THINK that......

plus interest....

TBH, I thought the show was gonna be total white trash tweakervill spank session. I was wondering why on earth they were putting it on the History Channel, but it's actually not that bad. They actually give you a bit of a history lesson, but I do find it hard to believe any of it is legit.

25% my ASS I think the legal lending limit in Canada is like 60% per annum(not sure about US) after that its usery. Dont think most people operating business like that wont take advantage. If you lend money on a piece of jewellery, you cant really loan any more than about 10% of retail value, because if you get stuck with it, you are fucked.

(I don't really know for sure) I don't think that they make the majority of their money from interest. I would bet it is from the items they aquire, by loaning people $500 for a $3000 watch, the person can't repay the loan, loses the watch. They sell it for $2000 and make an easy $1500 on the deal.

beerptrol 01-08-2010 01:17 PM

yep I like PawnStars. While they may make 20-30% from what they buy and resell, they have to be making bank on what they loan to perople who pawn and can't pay back the loan. I recall one episode were a guy pawned his semi for 23k and it was worth near 80k retail.

I have to agree that this isn't a typical pawn store. They have a great location in a great city so will see all sorts of things come in

the treasure chest episode was pretty cool

Hardcore Pawn on trutv is much more real and exciting, its a real ghetto shop in detroit with huge bodygaurds with guns run buy some jewish mobsters lol it was only on a couple times not sure what happened, but it was good i love both the shows but pawn stars seems unrealistic really they dont even have bulletproof glass in vegas not a chance with stacks of cash and high value items right there and not one security gaurd with a gun. BS. Prob shot in cali on a lot lol :D

Maybe they have it all insured real well? It's a real store, you can tell from the eposides its not shot at a studio and I am sure the tv show helps them sell. People who see it on tv probably want to go in to check it out when they are in vegas. Now if they would set up a website where people can go buy the stuff they see on tv, online. I bet their sales would increase a lot. Your store only has an audience of the amount of people that come in. Millions of people might be watching the TV show, see one of those obscure items, really want it, go online and if it is still available buy it from their living room. Like a HSN with a twist.

never heard of it. what network (in Canada) is it on?

It does seem real, but a bit unrealistic, anyone been to this shop?? That's a great idea for them to have a website I bet they would make a fortune on some of those rare items.
