Mike Fleming just confirmed that Sony Pictures decided today to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after franchise director Sam Raimi pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Instead, Mike Fleming is told, the studio will focus on a Summer 2012 reboot from a script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast. All this took place today at meeting on the lot today.

Interesting, though I can not imagine that a brand new actor/identity is going to get the crowds excited.

well a reboot worked well for incredible hulk after only one movie, im sure they can find another girlie man to play Peter Parker

GatorB 01-11-2010 05:11 PM

not sure where I see the improvement.

Why dont you do it?

DWB 01-11-2010 05:29 PM

Worked for Batman and The Hulk. Fuck it, lets just remake everything 2 or 3 times.

Who to cast for the Iron Man remake?

StaceyJo 01-11-2010 05:33 PM

Okay, will see on the upcoming movies.

2 million dollars better is an improvement over a movie that most considered dead in the water

lacuna 01-11-2010 06:10 PM

You could re-boot the Hulk because the first Hulk sucked. Everyone loves Spiderman!

If you factor inflation it made less.

Also

production budget $150 million

worldwide gross $263 million

considering that marketing adds at least 15% and studios only get HALF what the gross is the theaters get the other half.

So total production costs = at least $172 million
Universal's actual take = $132 milion

So Incredible Hulk LOST $40 million. Sooooo successful.

Spider-Man 4 to be released May 6, 2011

why?

theres still gonna be a 4 released that day, and plans for 5 and 6. sony has a contract with marvel dumbass

dmg44 01-11-2010 06:48 PM

I can't imagine another actor in Spider-man, it is like other person do the roll of Harry Potter, i think Tobey fits perfect in the roll of nerd of peter parker, and all the other parts are made in computer then it don't care if he looks stupid.

stop talking to yourself stupid :1orglaugh

MrBottomTooth 01-11-2010 07:21 PM

Horrible idea. The other series is going to be too fresh in people's minds.

They need to wait longer than that if they want to totally recreate a hugely popular franchise.

The new Batman was able to pull it off because the last decent Batman movies with Keaton were 15 years or so apart. (the other ones were forgettable trash)

I predict massive failure.

From the original post you apparently didn't read:

"Instead, Mike Fleming is told, the studio will focus on a Summer 2012 reboot"

You're forgetting about DVD sales and rentals, which should put the movie in the green.

Edit: Yep. US DVD sales alone were about $60 million.

beerptrol 01-11-2010 07:37 PM

reboot! they should just give it the boot!

J. Falcon 01-11-2010 07:40 PM

The previous Spider movies all sucked big time.
