insomnia...

i know. it's been done to death on this forum, but jesus, i have serious trouble sleeping. still, after all of these years. my girl and cat are snoring logs, and i'm up doing casual scans of gfy, and working on a book that is sure to be a failure (not that i care).

i haven't had a panic attack in many years, i'm comfortable, i exercise every day, happy. but fuck if i can't get into a regular sleep schedule. sleeping pills anyone? i've never tried them, but maybe i should give them a shot? i dunno. ugh.

AdPatron 01-19-2010 02:55 AM

I just stay up until I get tired.

JD 01-19-2010 02:55 AM

i used to do the same thing. and it was fine (well, sort of), but then i started rocking a normal life with webmaster stuff being more in the background, yet i can not shake the routine. i'm supposed to go to this thing call fresh tracks on Whistler mountain in 5 hours (snowboarding), and i haven't even slept, and i'm not tired even though i've been up since 5 am. blah.

kaysworld 01-19-2010 03:05 AM

I know what its like, you go to sleep and then 3am you are up and tossing around trying to think of something to do and then when it is time to get up you are ready to sleep.
Nightmare

I have major trouble sleeping if my gf is already asleep and starting to snore a little. Pisses me off. I usually have to wake her and then hope i can get to sleep before she starts again...

JFK 01-19-2010 07:51 AM

feel for you, I'm in the same boat, in Vegas up since 5 went to bed at 1 :disgust

CPimp 01-19-2010 07:56 AM

It's 10am and I am about to go to sleep... Been up since 4pm yesterday afternoon. It's really bad here, for me. Now, my 7 yr old sister in law takes the melatonin and she's fuckin OUT in 10 minutes flat. But my problem really sin't sleeping, it's waking up. Then once I am up I never go back to sleep. I need a fucking sleeping pill that wakes me up 7 hours later. Then I'd be happy.

You know why you can't sleep? Honestly? Your life is too good to shut your eyes on it.

I had the same issue a few years back when I sold a project I was working on and took like a year or so off from working. I would hop out of bed at like 6A, raring to go, because the whole day was mine to do with as I choose and then I wouldn't even be tired until like 1A.

Then I got back on the treadmill and suddenly I can't drag myself out of bed. Heh.

Enjoy it, I say.

go talk to your doctor? they should be able to give you really mild stuff that gets your body on the regular schedule

and then always wake up really early haha

EscortBiz 01-19-2010 09:40 AM

avoid sleeping pills

Martin 01-19-2010 09:46 AM

Get some knock out weed. The 2 hits and quit stuff. When you start coming down you'll sleep like a baby. I have always had trouble sleeping my whole life. Now if I smoke a little nugg 2-3 hours before I want to go to sleep when I jump in my bed I'm out in 5 -10 minutes.

Jman 01-19-2010 09:56 AM

Insomnia is bad, actually can bring a stress level that can kill.

Here are some good tips : No TV or computer 1 hour before going to bed. In that hour, read, meditate and drink a chamomille tea while doing it. 20-30 minutes before going to bed take a natural Melatonine tablet.

I do my workout mid afternoon so when it comes 10:30 - 11:00 pm, after my chill time and sleepy time tea, I am usually out in lala land no more then 15-20 min after my head hits the pillow.

If you can find these at your food store they do wonders...

J. Falcon 01-19-2010 10:04 AM

I was going to say exercise, but then I read that you work out everyday. How many hours do you sleep per day? Did you try reading? Yoga and meditation can also help. You can try staying up an entire day and a half, then going to sleep around 9 - 10 the following night. That's what I do when my sleeping hours gets out of whack.

However, I find that the best way to get to sleep when you can't is by not thinking about how hard it is to fall sleep. Instead try to think about how hard it is to stay awake. Yeah sounds weird but this actually works for me.

C-Luv 01-19-2010 10:16 AM

That really sucks, sorry : (

MetaMan 01-19-2010 10:17 AM

have some hardcore sex. get a good finger in the ass. then have a long hot shower. does the trick everytime.

some people say its bad but a TV helps me fall asleep bigtime. lets me get my mind off the day or what i want to do tomorrow.

John-ACWM 01-19-2010 10:38 AM

Didn't have any major problems with insomnia but the title reminded me of the movie Insomnia.Good one and a very good cast :winkwink:

rock-reed 01-19-2010 01:00 PM

jesse_adultdatingdollars 01-19-2010 01:03 PM

AdPatron 01-19-2010 01:07 PM

24 hours is just too short.

Tamashi 01-19-2010 01:10 PM

If you have had an insomnia for a long time, then stay away from pills or first visit a doctor. Sleeping pills are very addictive, and you will grab to them every night when you feel you can't sleep. Ontop of that, it's generally known that sleeping pills work like cigarettes, over time you will need more of those to get the same effect, to get asleep.

I'm not telling you this because I found it on Google, but because I've been addicted to sleeping pills for 4 years! It all started with an insomnia. At some point I grabbed to sleeping pills. The first weeks, half a pill was enough, after a couple of weeks i needed a whole, then 2, 3, 4. At some point I was taking up to 8 pills to get asleep, every single night.

Now you can say "But I can stop", but you won't be able to without help once you get into the addicted routine of sleeping pills. Just like drugs, you'll need them or you will feel bad. Even more important, without them you won't get asleep anymore.

After 4 years of sleeping pills and therapy I've been into a a special center for a couple of months to ban them out of my life. I'm not using them anymore now, I don't feel like I need them, but it will never really be gone. Sometimes I feel like grabbing to sleeping pills again, i just make sure i don't have them around ;)

For the rest, try to get tired in a natural way. Some of these could be (but not limited to):
- Hot milk (yes it works)
- Excercise
- Healthy Food
- A hot shower right before going to bed. The hotter the better, your body temprature will go up during the shower, and down after it. This will make you feeling tired.

what you should NOT do:
- Sleep during the day for let's say 2 hours. If you take a nap, you're ruining your sleep pattern. Ask your doctor.

Once again, save yourself from alot of trouble and stay away from pills. Visit a doctor, and try to find a natural way to get tired. There are many, which one works the best for you, you can find out together with a doctor.

Hard to say without knowing more but the usual things are good to try.

Take melatonin
Don't drink alcohol
Lose weight
Exercise more
Cut out all sugar and caffeine

If you did all that or even most of it I'm sure it would help.

Tamashi 01-19-2010 04:56 PM

I agree, try to look for reasons that caused the insomnia. Your body nor your brains just randomly says "Hey, let's go in insomnia mode". There is definitely something that is causing it, try to find out the source, and work on it.

Once more, don't grab to pills :)

Jayvis 01-19-2010 05:25 PM

I do the "Heath Ledger" if you will. Puts me to bed every night.

Spunky 01-19-2010 05:32 PM

I tried the melatonin but doesn't work for me,I get maybe 4 hours per night .I want to avoid the sleeping pills

kush 01-19-2010 06:18 PM

I recently just made my room more sleep friendly. Here are some practical tips, they've helped me.

1) Clean, Vacuum, and Dust! No brainer that better quality air = better quality sleep.
2) Run an air filter in the background, and keep the bedroom door closed at all times. Again better quality air. As a bonus the constant dull sound of the air filter also helps me. The dull sound can drown out other noises.
3) Buy some scented lavender fragrances. Right now I'm using lavender oil with the scent sticks, and these scented lavender beads. Lavender, many, many people claim, helps induce sleep.
4) Make your room pitch black! Cover all LED lights, black out those windows, etc.
5) Buy a new bed set that (sub)consciously makes you think sleep that is super comfortable. Nothing bright and wild. This is excessive for some, but I just spent a thousand dollars brand new Hotel bedding. But it's great!
6) Have the mindset that the bedroom is only for sleep and sex, and stick to it! Again, playing mind games on yourself can be quite beneficial.

quiet 01-19-2010 07:08 PM

i'm in great shape, eat very well, and exericise every single day (snowboarding in the winter, downhill biking and hiking in the summer) i live in a mountain resort. going to try the tea, a little skeptical though...

chupachups 01-19-2010 07:13 PM

I am sure you have already tried Melatonine tablets but try if not - works great for me. (and I used to have all of your problems long ago)

fatfoo 01-19-2010 07:22 PM

Keep in mind that less sleep and staying up to do work is sometimes connected with higher profits.

Over the counter melatonin only goes upto 8 mg, but from a doctor you can get it upto 150 mg. Thats good to put you back on a schedule, but I don't have a regular schedule so I'm kinda fucked. I have 75 mg ones now, and may try the 150 next doctor visit.

Good Luck quiet ....This is something I live with myself

WTF? 75 and 150? When I take three (9mg) it takes 30 mins and I go "badoink" in 10 seconds...

bloggingseo 01-19-2010 08:26 PM

Don't do sleeping pills! If you have had bad insomnia for years, they will not help you. They are just a temporary solution. If you try to stop taking them, you will have even worse sleep patterns. Good luck

Boby 01-19-2010 08:27 PM

i just come from bed cant close my eyes
wide open

marketsmart 01-19-2010 08:37 PM

i drink a 12 pack of red bull about 15 minutes before bed time...

i sleep like a log...

give it a try... :thumbsup

cherrylula 01-19-2010 09:29 PM

if you drink a lot of caffeine that can throw your sleep off, and alcohol will do it too.

melatonin will give you wild dreams but does knock you out. I had to lay off that stuff years ago from the weird dreams. :1orglaugh

I have found the more chemicals you take in it will just screw your natural body clock up more.

epitome 01-19-2010 09:31 PM

For as active as you sound, if you're not sleeping then you may have a bona fide sleep disorder.

I did the Ambien thing for while ... gave up because a night's sleep on Ambien sometimes become 12+ hours and NOTHING woke up me.

Now I just deal with it.

If my schedule gets too far off (it always does), I'll just do a 36 or 48 hour day and get it back on track.

heymatty 01-19-2010 09:36 PM

Have kids, you'll be knackered all the time :)

goldfish 01-19-2010 09:42 PM

Does not sleeping affect you otherwise? Does it affect your work?

If not, don't worry about it, if it does sleeping pills will work but I always feel shittier the next day than I would if I hadn't slept.

shuki 01-19-2010 10:43 PM

An acupuncturist that can get you some great Chinese tonic herbs.

I just made a decoction of some items that knocked me out cold last night but I woke up a bit groggy so I want to look into all the ingredients I used and add or subtract before I give out the recipe.

A knowledgeable herbalist will get you sleeping in no time.
