Need help with ICQ history...please...

I need to save/backup my ICQ history and I do not see a feature in ICQ to back it up.

I did a google search and found nothing that would help.

I have this program, Handy Backup, but it doesn't recognize the ICQ location. :helpme

I want to reformat my computer but I can't lose my ICQ history, way too much important info in there...

Any suggestions? :helpme

Should be lots of freeware out there that can do it for you Loryn. When you reinstall = install pidgin.im = 100 times better and no log problems.

There is a file that you will have to look for in the ICQ folder. . . actually in a sub folder. When you see it, you will recognize that it must be the one. Sorry, I do not recall the name now.

Save it as a text file. I have saved mine but never got them to merge with the reinstall but at least I had the history available.

What OS are you on? icq history is usually in a hidden location and tough to find if you don't know what you are looking for. You just want to backup your whole history, right?

I was just looking and could not find it. I was trying to remember where they put that.

in XP it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\ICQ\icqusername

and is called Messages.mdb in icq 6.5 and called Messages.qdb in icq 7

Not sure how that corresponds to Vista or Win 7

Hope that helps

Win Vista/7
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ICQ\icqnumber
look for Messages.mdb (icq6.5)

Thank you...that is all I am looking for...is to have the history. It would be great to be able to just carry them over or have them stay with your ICQ number. But I will take anything at this point...:winkwink:

Yes, I just want to back up the whole history. I'm using XP Pro and once I find a way to save my ICQ history, I 'm going to install Windows 7.

This is the last thing I need to do, it's holding me up... :disgust

I also need to save Skype too...

Hey Loryn,

I just had a very similar ordeal (just wanted to migrate my ICQ history). I finally got it worked out. Please feel free to ICQ me, and I will let you know what I did. I hit all the same roadblocks by the way, you're not crazy :)

Loryn 02-22-2010 07:59 PM

Thank you guys, and my compliments to my head chef...Badddog...

I went into my control panel and ?clicked show hidden files and folders?, found the ICQ location under the APPDATA, copied all the files under my user ID, loaded them on my laptop, tested my efforts, and BAM, all my history was in my ICQ, just like it was on my desktop.

Now I?m trying to merge two different ICQ histories into one, but at least I know I can save the conversations, even if I have to save them separately and start over with the new OS.

If I do this, I will tell ya how!! :wetkiss
