LaDainian Tomlinson cut by Chargers

In a move that was fully expected but still feels odd to type, the Chargers released LaDainian Tomlinson Monday after nine seasons with the team.

The timing of the release was likely out of deference to Tomlinson's career. He can get a head start on most unrestricted free agents and talk to interested teams right away.

"It has been a privilege to work with him and witness his entire career," owner Dean Spanos said in a statement. "I'm proud of him and grateful to him for the way he has carried himself both on and off the field.

Just one of many we'll see this year due to the lack of a cap and overall uncertainty. My guess is he goes to the Patriots.

Now let's hope he doesn't get signed by anyone. Sorry, but I just don't like the guy. I'm sure a lot of you may be from California but I just can't root for the guy. He has often come off, to me, as a cry baby. Philip Rivers rubs me the wrong way too. They don't lose with any grace.

One thing that's for sure is he'll get signed. The question is if he is going after money or a superbowl ring.

He won't get a big contract, he will more than likely sign for the minimum.

The end of an era.

Rexk 02-22-2010 07:10 PM

Speaking for the Lightning Bolt nation,,this one saddens me..but is probably good for him and the team

NaughtyRob 02-22-2010 07:11 PM

About fucking time, they should have dealt him years ago and kept Turner.

mozadek 02-22-2010 07:24 PM

The Chargers don't need him, they find a way to choke with LT, they will find a way to choke without him.

~Ray 02-22-2010 08:35 PM

I'm fairly certain Jerry Jones would offer LT more than minimum

FreeHugeMovies 02-22-2010 09:31 PM

He hates the Pats

Poppy 02-22-2010 09:37 PM

LT was the man. Sorry to see him go this way. New Orleans???

Horny Dude 02-22-2010 10:54 PM

The Chargers should have traded him when he was at his prime peak and gotten something for it. The way the Chargers are set up now, they're more of a passing team then a running team. The O line can barely keep Rivers protected let alone making a hole for LT to run through which sucks.

exactly what I was going to say. :thumbsup

Mr. Garibaldi 02-23-2010 02:09 AM

He cant run for shit right now. Saskatchewan Roughriders might offer him a contract.

hypedough 02-23-2010 02:38 AM

He should just retire now, it's not like his next few years will do anything good for his image.

J. Falcon 02-23-2010 09:57 AM

Too many toe injuries have ruined his career.

WebairGerard 02-23-2010 10:04 AM

he was a great player. obviously best days are behind him. he can still help some teams though.

maxprohost 02-23-2010 10:07 AM

Yup, I'd be shocked to see him go to the Pats.

seeric 02-23-2010 01:24 PM

i would personally like to see darren sproels as #1 back anyhow.

He is a return runner only. If the Chargers think they can go through the 2010/2011 season with him in the backfield then they better prepare to lose another. Lets just hope they pick a RB up in the draft.

bloggerz 02-23-2010 09:18 PM

any nfl team would love to have him as backup

Turf 02-24-2010 05:43 AM

his best years might be gone but for the right team he would still be a solid back..
