Apple bans most (but not all) sexy apps

Sorry if this has been posted, but I thought it might interest a lot who've been building marketing plans around this.

http://scitech.blogs.cnn.com/2010/02...y-apps/?hpt=T2

I have spoken with Apple, and the following are the new rules:

1. No images of women in bikinis (Ice skating tights are not OK either)

2. No images of men in bikinis! (I didn?t ask about Ice Skating tights for men)

3. No skin (he seriously said this) (I asked if a Burqa was OK, and the Apple guy got angry)

4. No silhouettes that indicate that Wobble can be used for wobbling boobs (yes ? I am serious, we have to remove the silhouette in this pic)

5. No sexual connotations or innuendo: boobs, babes, booty, sex ? all banned

6. Nothing that can be sexually arousing!! (I doubt many people could get aroused with the pic above but those puritanical guys at Apple must get off on pretty mundane things to find Wobble "overtly sexual!")

7. No apps will be approved that in any way imply sexual content (not sure how Playboy is still in the store, but ?)

yup, but Phil Schiller says they have an established/accepted business model so are ok

When asked about the Sports Illustrated app, Mr. Schiller said Apple took the source and intent of an app into consideration. ?The difference is this is a well-known company with previously published material available broadly in a well-accepted format,? he said.

the most funny thing is that PlayBoy is still there and they feature not just bikini but nude pictures too

very strange attitude from Apple which consider that children can watch playboy and that is not harmfull for their minds :)))

I read on a local website that Apple said that has to do with the fact that Sports illustrated and Playboy are considered to be "trust worthy and established" companies

I wonder how many celeb apps will be removed or if there will be a double standard for those. I know Brittney Spears recently launched an App and you know there will be pics of her wearing very little on stage and showing plenty of skin. Somehow though, I don't think she will be banned.

Ours was taking down and they were just models. Nothing close to nudity.

I don't really know how the apple apps store works but couldn't someone make an "adult only" store where they sell iphone apps or can it only be installed via apple website?

EscortBiz 02-23-2010 11:53 PM

when companies get too big sometimes they start acting like a third world country regime

MPGdevil 02-24-2010 05:19 AM

What the fuck is up with all these overprotecting parents today? Oh-noes.. my kid saw some female skin. Now he'll grow up being a sexual monster.
Hell, lock them up in a basement till they turn 18. God forbid if they see a woman wearing hotpants or a tight shirt in the local store.. and what about the beach? Definitely a BIG no for children :helpme

I can understand Apple might ban some offensive apps, but those rules are almost in the religious category. Isn't allowing some companies to show females and not others special treatment and a breach of some regulations?
Talk about pleasing some religious nuts or parents who should never have been allowed to have kids.

Slappin Fish 02-24-2010 05:49 AM

When you add that to the Ipad being the most locked personal computing device in history. The only one ever to run exclusively pre-approved apps...we have to thank our lucky star these fuckers haven't been the dominant player for the past 20 years :helpme
