Albert Einstein: I am Not a Crusading, Professional Atheist

Albert Einstein: I am Not a Crusading, Professional Atheist

I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being.

- Albert Einstein, letter to Guy H. Raner Jr., Sept. 28, 1949, quoted by Michael R. Gilmore in Skeptic, Vol. 5, No. 2

===========================

Religious people are just plain old stupid.

Agent 488 02-27-2010 08:54 AM

you even read that quote?

J. Falcon 02-27-2010 09:08 AM

So religious people are stupid because of that statement? That's great. FYI, not all religious people are extremists who try to push their ideas on others (kind of like you are doing here). And I've said it before and I'll say it again, people who are very anti-religious seem to portray the same negative characteristics of the same fanatics they claim to detest.

Agent 488 02-27-2010 09:10 AM

he's critiquing athiests there for fucksakes.

TheSenator 02-27-2010 09:14 AM

Only Jesus can save!

Now, kneel and give me 10 Hail Marys, 7 Our Father and a few trips around the Rosary.

Yeah we get it, you hate religious people and religion.

Agent 488 02-27-2010 09:19 AM

the first step in learning is learning how to learn.

Science? What good is science?

Science does not explain how people read minds and science says psychics are impossible. Science does not explain mind control and thoughts flying from one head to another. What good is that?

All science does, is it says which things are impossible.

That's not possible.

Just think, can this thing really help you in your daily life: (I mean nobody even knows what this thing means):

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:F...s/molecule.jpg

I think what's more useful is to say, "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not steal."

fatfoo 02-27-2010 09:58 AM

Albert Einstein is an Atheist?

You know what it leads to? Researching how to kill people more effectively. What good is that? What do you want to do? Blow up the whole earth with a bomb?

By the way, here's my rapper-style equation:

They got Rapper MCs singing on the mike. They have names like "MC Murder." The MC Rappers sell E (Ecstasy). So, check this out:

E = MC x MC

fatfoo 02-27-2010 10:12 AM

But, without science I wouldn't even know how to make equations?

Without science I wouldn't be able to do 2 + 2 = 4

So, I guess science is good for something.

Besides, I debunked Einstein's theories over a bowl of ice cream a while back

No he's not. I don't see a lot of atheists trying to push their viewpoint on others thru the court system, or by knocking on doors, or sending missionaries to other countries. He's saying that as a human being, he doesn't know what's on the other side and he thinks it's presumptive for ANYONE to claim that knowledge. That statement would make me squirm a hell of a lot more if I were pushing some kind of religious viewpoint than if I were an atheist.

E = MC x MC
E = M^2 C^2
E =/= MC^2

Good maths, chief.

I'm not going to debate the logistics of religion vs Atheism and I won't bother calling out the fallacious claims made by so many here. I will state that I am an Atheist and I think organized religion gets away with too much.

Organized religion for the the WIN!

The Roman Catholic church has paid out so much "hush" money to victims.

Its amazing to me that with all the evidence of priest molesting children that people still donate to the biggest real estate owners in the world.

TheSenator 02-28-2010 08:38 AM

Did God cause the earthquake or can we explain that through science?
