dog owners: who subscribes to sessions with cesar?
 

anyone here?

curious if its worth it.

my brother used a trainer and said it was amazing.

I personally think his dog is dumber than shit and the training did nothing.......

we watch Caesar alot here
but I bought into this

and i have to say it worked WONDERS for our Dane
we also had a trainer come in when he was a puppy for about 2 months

catching them as a puppy is a big big help for training

My wife bought the Cesar DVDs and they were kind of a rip-off. No real new information and we actually saw a few of the episodes on TV that were on the DVDs. :disgust

We were first time dog adopters, so we were looking for any help we could get. Fortunately we got really lucky and have never had any issues w/ our baby!

We adopted her from the SPCA and ended up doing their weekend obedience class (which was free) and then their 6 week class (which was pretty cheap - forget how much though). Getting the information direct from them was much better than anything we ever got from the DVDs (or I would imagine that you would get from an online thing). The folks at the SPCA (at least ours) were always willing to help out whenever we had any questions.

FWIW - we still watch Cesar's show, but we are much more "Victoria / Me or the Dog" type people now. :thumbsup

I got a a DVD called "Crate training games" which I loved... really helped my pup love her crate, and have fun with it. Which has been a good foundation for teaching other stuff.

I think the DVD was bout $30 - and it's the best training aide I've purchased!

I do get some value from Ceasar's DVDs, but it's mostly "Mindset" stuff for me; not as much stuff for my pup. So, indirectly I think Ceasar's stuff works & Helps.

I have 2 dogs, 1 is a perfect dog (Golden retriever), the other is a real pain in the ass and growls all the time at everyone even if you are petting her. My daughter watches Caesar all the time and thinks she is the next "Dog Trainer" of all time. She tries everything she sees on tv and none of it works on my freakazoid dog. She even wrote this guy and no one and I mean no one ever even acknowledged receiving her letter. To say she is a little bummed is putting it lightly. I would believe if he came and straightened this twisted dog out, but until then I am believing nothing.

All you really need to do is watch his tv shows and apply what he teaches you on them. My wife is a dog trainer on the side and uses many of the techniques and ideals behind Caesers teachings. Works wonders on our dog which is a pitbull and our cat appreciates it too! :)

btw. Dont waste your time with the trainers at places like Petsmart and others. They all use positive reinforcement techinques which seems ok to talk about it but in reality doesnt work worth a shit.

i just broke my dog's spirit as a pup and became pack leader. fucker waits outside the bathroom for me when i dump even. you guys need to stop looking at tv for guidance lol. just exercise your dog and don't let it own you in any form, they catch on rather quickly.

the only real issue im having is my dog barks super loud at other dogs, she doesnt bite at all, but the dogs get scared even though she is friendly, only when seeing new dogs, dogs shes met before is fine with, and she keeps barking even though they have gone by, i almost need her to be with other dogs to train her.

any ideas?

My dog was doing this for a while, and it got pretty annoying. One thing I've found is his amount of a agitation toward other dogs is almost directly proportional to the amount of socialization he's been getting.

When he's a little on edge, I take regular trips to the dog park, to expose him to other dogs and get him away from his usual play-buddies.

My wife read Cesar's book and has been applying the techniques with our willful Boston Terrier. He has improved while on walks but it didn't happen over night. It's like anything else, practice, patience and consistency.

I like that show "At the end of my Leash." He's got great tips in there, and you can really see (after a few episodes) that the dog's problems are really symptoms of the family's issues. They're kind of like kids in that they pick up tiny emotional nuances in the family dynamics and the stress gets to them.

I believe in the NILF theory : Nothing in Life is Free. Make the dog work for everything it gets, even if it's just a sit-stay before dinner. It builds respect and attention and patience. But you have to be consistent! If you ask the dog to do something, then GIVE UP, the dog will learn that obedience is an option, not a mandatory thing.

My father's wife was featured in an episode of the Dog Whisperer along with The Horse Whisperer (Pat Parelli) last year. She works with physically, mentally and emotionally challenged individuals using horses as component of therapy. Anyway, their shepherd mix and Tibetan spaniel mix chased after the working horses and the horses were buggin' out, of course. So they called Cesar and Pat to help.

They were very cool and they definitely did help :thumbsup:thumbsup

Yep, watch the shows, apply the techniques, and last sentence above. That sound Cesar makes and the forefinger-thumb nip really work - our dogs are eleven and still learning new tricks - I've applied some of the show techniques and they've worked well - consistent reinforcement necessary too!
