New dSLR camera?
before I ask for recommendations on a new camera I took my last one snowboarding in my backpack and had a nice wipeout on my back, smart yes I know. Since then my canon eos dslr camera won't show any menu settings in manual mode, only automatic. The lens also won't focus so I think I need a new lens but not sure what to do about the camera itself. Any ideas on how I would fix this or should I trash it and get a new one?
If I get a new camera I'd like to hear recommendations. For a new camera I'd look to spend up to 1000euros but with the intention of a year or 2 to buy more lenses and maybe more $ on a new camera but sticking with a brand. Photography is a new hobby of mine so hope to hear some suggestions from the pros here. Suggestions? |
Have you looked into getting it fixed?

for that money, maybe you could get a Canon eos 500 with a decent lens

I just spent $625 on a Canon 50D. Ebay steal. That's where I'd start.

See if you can buy a used 5D Mark II... that's what I'd do...

I would take it to a shop and get a quote before you decide. I don't know how old the cannon you had was, but if you can fix it on the cheap think of all the toys you could buy for that body w/ the money you were going to spend on a new camera :)

I paid about $800CAD at the time almost a year ago canon eso rebel xsi. I haven't looked into getting it fixed yet but it's hard to tell if it's a software or hardware problem with the camera itself. I think the lens is fucked so probably for the cost to fix the camera itself I might be better off going to a new model knowing I'm going to get more lenses and a better camera. Keep hearing Nikons are great. I'll see if I can at least salvage this one as I have not having my camera to take any pics.

I have a Cannon 450D and loving it. Eventually, I will step up but for now it is keeping me happy.
