Any BMXers?
Awhile back I started rebuilding some old school BMX bikes I got and have started riding again, not just for exercise but thinking about going to the local BMX race track and racing.
ANyone race BMX? Been doing 3 sets of laps for months now. Morning, noon and night I do bmx bike laps, got me in shape! |
I have a friend from high school who races. She lives in Virginia. You all in the south get better weather for this particular sport.

they opened this really nice BMX race track near us and man it looks awesome! Races are 3 times a week with practice days between. They have all ages and different skill groups, and to move from one group to next you must win the race to progress, so its challenging and great exercise.
Love bikes, I want to build a chromed out hood gangster ride next LOL |
nothing like bmx racing.

best thing is riding with no hands checking my blackberry business emails LOL last night I was riding and sending off client emails at the same time LOL

Used to love it. ELF frame, Bullseye cranks etc etc. I think the bike was around 12 lbs. which was pretty impressive back then.
My body just couldnt do the things I used to do though. Now go out there and do some table tops for all of us who are too old and put on too many pounds ! |
I used to ride a little here and there, mostly freestyle flatland and street. But in the past 2 years I set up a 24" cruiser to ride around and love it. I do about 7-9 miles a day of city riding to and from work on it hitting little spots on my way. So much fun and a great work out. I am just about to put another $200 into it and get started again this spring.

I used to race hard about 10 years ago. I even made it to the ABA Gold Cup Championship in Las Vegas once. I still go out to the tracks here in San Diego, just to watch. I would get smoked if I tried to take a gate now. If anyone is in San Diego, you should check out the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. They have pro & amateur events all the time. I was just there for the UCI BMX Supercross.

i do a couple of these each month in the summers on my santa cruz V10
http://www.whistlerbike.com/events/phat/index.htm super fun, and really more about chilling out than racing (although some people take it pretty serious). of course this is lift-accessed downhill, not quite the same thing lol, but still, sort of related. |
One of my best friends restores old BMX and freestyles bikes from the 80's. He put together GT Pro Performers, Haro RS 2, Mongoose, Dynos, etc. He told me that my holy grail of bikes, the "Haro Master" would cost me close to $1500. I'm pondering it after watching the movie "Rad". Break the Ice!

I raced bmx as a younger teen... we have a track near the house here, never really thought about going down to it. But I might now.

Here are some photos from that UCI BMX Supercross in San Diego. I hear they have another one coming up. This track is the exact layout of the one at the summer games last year in China.
