I wonder how long their influence would last. I mean, what kind of "sea change" needs to happen in any culture for a cultural influence as big as the Beatles to finally lose its hold? The graying and passing of the Baby Boomer generation might be one key stage in that... what else?

So many good songs..I've always liked 'Till there was you' 'Golden Slumber', 'Eleanor Rigby' 'She's Leaving Home' and probably my favourite 'Let It Be'. Truth be told, I like just about all of their music. 'Rocky Racoon' 'Don't Let Me Down'...amazing stuff. I could go on and on.

the only thing that could possibly kill the beatles influence would be if rock music completely died.

Good point. A complete genre switch... Like the switch from ragtime to jazz.

My fav is Across The Universe.

The Beatles were the best. So many great songs. Such an evolution in music. Pushed recording and song writing to the limits. You can go on and on. And their best music never gets old.

It kills me whan younger people say "The Beatles aren't that great". To that I say "you weren't there". To me, you just cannot fully appreciate how important the beatles were (and are) unless you grew up with them like I did. I was 8 when they played Ed Sullivan and I had two older sisters who loved them, so I heard all their music all my growing up years. I remember having a little transistor radio (remember those?) and at night, I'd lie in bed and listen to the Beatles. You just had to be there, man.

My kids and I sing this to each other daily and just laugh about it lol

The only people who say that are those who are too young and don't understand the origins of their own favorite songs from today's music, or they just plain don't have an ounce of musical taste OR they completely utterly lack the sense to at least recognize the originality and genius this band displayed back in that era. Music today wouldn't be the same were it not for bands like the Beatles.

It's not that one HAD to be there, it's that they need to be able to appreciate the music, and the history of it. Listen to the Beatles and the albums of many other key bands from the time and someone with a true appreciation of the music and the history of rock can actually hear and visualize the history in the music.

Some of course need a chemical aid of some sort to facilitate said visions.

On a serious note tho... The Beatles are the greatest band ever, end of story.

...and they are over rated just as much now as they were then.

lots of the kids just say that because its not cool to like something popular and not cool to like what your parents liked.

I was born in 1964, so missed their early years. But I remember visiting an aunt in Kansas as a kid and one of my cousins had every beatles album out and a nice stereo with big headphones (and a funny smelling, pointy cigarette butt in an ashtray) and one day I sat and listened to maybe 4 or 5 whole albums :)

I know people think Paul or John mostly when thinking of the beatles sound, but I feel that George is the one who's tone and sound are the most recognizable parts of their songs. His solo career was the most successful as well. More albums sold means something.

The Beatles' influence will die the day humanity stops studying it's own history.

In other words, never.

I consider The Beatles the greatest rock n' roll band ever. Led Zeppelin comes in at a close second.

I don't want to sound like a smart-ass but Jealous Guy was actually John Lennon alone. :)
The Beatles' influence won't die, 200 years from now they'll be still be talking about them.
