He was not allowed to do whatever he wanted to do...now was he? He could have accepted an Article 15...but would not as he said he was not guilty of anything thus he was given a Courts Martial and acquitted of all charges. All rules and discipline was applied...thank you very much.

I'm a former US Marine. We used to have large scale war games that were pretty realistic. And when we were captured, we were considered POWs - and treated as such. This meant kneeling for hours at a time, sack over our heads, hands tied behind our backs. Our jobs as Marines were to escape, and their job was to keep us down. As a POW, if we so much as moved, we got a boot to our spine or a rifle into our stomachs. This is how we trained during peacetime.
