Yes, big vote in November.

Summary:

Changes California Law to Legalize Marijuana and Allow It to Be Regulated and Taxed. Initiative Statute.

Allows people 21 years old or older to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use. Permits local governments to regulate and tax commercial production and sale of marijuana to people 21 years old or older. Prohibits people from possessing marijuana on school grounds, using it in public, smoking it while minors are present, or providing it to anyone under 21 years old. Maintains current prohibitions against driving while impaired. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local governments: Savings of up to several tens of millions of dollars annually to state and local governments on the costs of incarcerating and supervising certain marijuana offenders. Unknown but potentially major tax, fee, and benefit assessment revenues to state and local government related to the production and sale of marijuana products.

I have very supportive fam. They also know, while I came here to spend time with them, it has been 4 years, so its about time to think about whats next. I am not the type to "stay in one place forever, grow old and die"

I hope all states move in this direction, it would be a good thing. The only problem I see is once the government gets all this money from weed, they will just spend it recklessly and not try to bring down the national debt.....you know spend it on everything except the things it needs to be used for.

Small amounts for personal use are pretty much tolerated here and have been for many years.

why move to Canada when its been like that in Cai since 1976? Weed is not illegal in cali, its not a crime. hasnt been since 76. Small fine, however, big difference between decrim and total legalization. In cali i walked around with an ounce at all times LOL

I lived in decrim society for a decade, i prefer it be straight up legal.

well word on the street is, its gonna pass.

Politicians are more talking about provisons like 'no pot near schools" more than "this will never pass" - you can tell by the reaction and how the bill is addressed.

You can tell how the gov has handled the dispensary overflow that they arent going anywhere and its getting ready for it to pass. Hard to see if you havent lived there or have fam there, but I got friends and fam smoking everyday with legal cards telling me whats happening.

Fact is, if over 50% voted for Prop 215 for medical marijuana, Something tells me, in the past 15 years or so, the public opinion has turned even more in favor.

Fletch XXX 04-28-2010 07:49 AM

I looked it up, Prop 215 passed with 55.6%

It passed with 5,382,915 (55.6%) votes in favor and 4,301,960 (44.4%) against.

dyna mo 04-28-2010 07:50 AM

i haven't talked with one single californian who is against the bill, everyone here knows everyone schmokes, the state and local governments are completely broke,

it will pass and we will all be schmoking killer buds on the steps of the governor's mansion very soon!

Fletch XXX 04-28-2010 07:51 AM

exctly, local govs dont even have funds to run ads agaisnt it LOL ;)

candyflip 04-28-2010 07:56 AM

Those numbers are exciting. I don't know that anything like that will happen in NY, though it makes sense and we're hurting budget wise too.

That's pretty much a given with any government no matter what the thing is that's bringing in the new revenue. Case in point -- right here in Manitoba, back when our provinicial government legalized gambling for bars and casinos. That government-run gaming brought in over 200 million in revenue the first year, and much more every year since. You'd think injecting that much "found money" into a state or provincial budget would make highly visible and distinct differences over the course of nearly 20 years, but...

do we still have potholes in our roads and highways? Absolutely.
Did we lose our NHL hockey franchise in spite of gov't promises that they would save the team? Yup.
Did our taxes drop? Not a chance.
Does the government still complain from time to time about not having enough funds for this or that? Hell yes.

Face facts. If pot brings in an extra half million or a billion dollars to any US state you can rest assured that after 5 or 10 years you'll look back and see very little difference in infrastructure or your quality of life, as in almost no bang for the buck.

The good news is if you get high enough you really won't care about it.

Mr. Romance

that is a given, however, still not the same as 100% legal.

My sister and even father in law have medical cards, not to mention everybody i know in Long Beach, Hollywood, Alhambra Eureka, Arcada, (Humboldt) etc .. pretty much every single person I know in Cali. as I said, our family runs a clinic, I am just doing the family thing right now. Justhad baby, spending time with soce fam down here before shoving off again... When ever your wifes dad has one, (med card) you know everyone in LA smokes. :thumbsup

Fletch XXX 04-28-2010 08:08 AM

ps still 100% sober, no drunk (5 years without drop) and no pot. Flying straight.

L-Pink 04-28-2010 08:09 AM

Will selling pot be legalized or will it have to be purchased from "stores" approved/licensed by the state?

from what I posted above:

"Permits local governments to regulate and tax commercial production and sale of marijuana to people 21 years old or older. "

VikingMan 04-28-2010 08:42 AM

You can already grow weed. If someone calls up the cops her in LA and reports their neighbor growing a few plants the cops will do absolutely nothing. You only have to worry if you are growing a large number.

if/when they legalize it hopefully and start generating billions of additional state revenues, watch other states follow cuz we all know money trumps everything in politics..

legalizing marijuana will only lead to more usage among young kids, and more DUIs.

uninformed and wrong, and as we have seen with medical marijuana, it has led to LESS USE by teens. It in fact, DECLINES LOL

The law specifically is for 21 years and older, but good try.

Quote:

A newly updated analysis released June 16, coauthored by Dr. Mitch Earleywine, associate professor of psychology at the Albany campus of the State University of New York, shows that state medical marijuana laws have not increased teen marijuana use, despite fears that have been raised when such measures are considered. Teen marijuana use has consistently declined in states with medical marijuana laws, and generally more markedly than national averages.
your "opinion" has nothing to do with the facts about regulated drugs.

Fletch XXX 04-28-2010 09:46 AM

SACRAMENTO — Bucking dire predictions by anti-drug warriors, the 10 states that approved medical marijuana laws over the last decade have experienced sharp declines in cannabis use among teenagers, according to a new study by a marijuana advocacy group.

http://articles.latimes.com/2005/sep/07/local/me-pot7

Using the same old argument the Prohibitionists used has been proven wrong time and time again.

And by regulating it even further it will decline more.

Quote:

California has seen usage among ninth-graders drop 47% since 1996, the year the state became the nation's first to legalize medical marijuana.
besides, there is no teen in Cali who cant get weed today, regulate it tomorrow and it will decline. Try to educate yourself on this subject.

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2010 09:46 AM

I am curious though, when it passes, what happens to the Medical side of it? There will be no more need for it. Yes?

Fletch XXX 04-28-2010 09:56 AM

hey Amp! good to see you around man

I think when it comes to that, from what I am gathering from medical dispensary friends etc... is right now it is a wait and see thing. No one knows what will happen, and anything less is most likely speculation.

You're going to move back if it's legalized, but you haven't touched it in 5 years?

So you're going to fall off the wagon just because they suddenly made it legal? Doesn't make sense to me.

Why start up again just because they legalize it?

Insurance would cover it based on your plans "RX" plan BUT only if you buy from a designated place...not home grown I would imagine

Vendzilla 04-28-2010 10:07 AM

Here's my take on it
I already smoke it legally
If they change the law, the government will have a hand in it, do you really want that?
They promised the lottery taxes would help the schools, are schools are fucked
I think our government is big enough and tax way more than they need too, leave my weed alone. I wonder how they plan on taxing the guy that grows for himself?

I pay $100 a year for a script, you can get one for writers cramps, bad back, sleep apnea and a bunch of other things, the only people that benefit from this is the tax board.

Fletch, move back to Cali and I'll give you the number to a great doctor
