Thats kind of funny, i was JUST reading an article about how nearly 1 million floppy disks are sold in the UK every month to this day.

Ace_luffy 04-28-2010 08:54 AM

i still have Floppy Disk , still a cool stuff

96ukssob 04-28-2010 08:54 AM

good riddance! honestly, its about time and not sure why they didnt die off long ago.

with solid state drives and memory cards, they are smaller, hold more and more convenient than any type of zip disk or floppy plus do not require a special drive.

sextoyking 04-28-2010 08:55 AM

End of an era....

I was so dang happy when the old big floppy's were replaced with the small ones :)

I loaded my first 2 bbs's with the small ones, wildcat and gcomm....

Dugan 04-28-2010 08:56 AM

That doesn't seem right. From the article:

Quote:

Sony is the last manufacturer of 3.5-inch floppy disks, and while the company sold more than 12 million of them in 2009, Sony has just announced it will stop making floppies as of March 2011.
Sony only sells that many in a year, apparently.

k0nr4d 04-28-2010 09:44 AM

Biggest floppy disk company apparently is verbatim

MrBottomTooth 04-28-2010 10:15 AM

Holy shit, can't believe Sony was still selling 12 million of them a year in 2009. Who would buy them?

digitaldivas 04-28-2010 11:06 AM

didn't the web standard JUST go from 800x600 sites to 1024x768 not too long ago? A vast majority of people are still pimping outdated hardware :(

Chosen 04-28-2010 11:19 AM

LoveSandra 04-28-2010 11:50 AM

bronco67 04-28-2010 11:56 AM

It's amazing news that some company sold 12 million last year.

I haven't seen a goddamn floppy since 1996. Who the fuck is still using those things?

The floppy disk really is obsolete. You have to buy punk rock music on CDs, not floppy disks.

I still use floppies when installing FreeBSD, since its support for USB devices (thumb drives, external CD-ROMs) didn't work properly until the last release or two...
