Blacks versus Native Americans versus Mexicans versus Hawaiians
When we, the US, decided to cross the ocean and conquer new territory, we brought the blacks with us in chains like animals. Later we decided they were human and set them free, converting them to US citizens.
When we, the US, decided to take all the land away from the Native Americans, we rounded them all up and put them in special 'reservations' to keep them under control. When we took the west away from the Mexicans, we decided they were all here 'illegally' now, so we round them up and ship them back to the Mexican Motherland. When we, the US, decided to take Hawaii from the Hawaiians, we converted them all to US Citizens and told them to be grateful. The blacks are still pissed. The Native Americans had their spirit and wills utterly broken, so now we let them have casinos because we feel bad. We're still rounding up Mexicans. The Hawaiians that have denounced the US and STILL fight for Hawaiian sovereignty are allowed to hold protests in the park on the weekends, because we have nowhere to deport them to. We took everything they had. And then there are others that we just throw in Guantanamo and forget about forever. Interesting how we deal with people that don't meet the criteria of middle-class suburban white guy. |
Agreed.
Race relations historically are interesting. Especially when you look at the U.S., and even WHITES before the others. Irish, German, Italians, Pols and the discrimination. This does not get into the whole indentured servant thing either. It makes you wonder how a lot of these counties, or 'empires', would have been today without the slave labor over the centuries. A lot of countries were built on the backs of slaves and discrimination. |
That was then. This is now.
Yes, the US once brought back blacks in chains like animals but today we have a black president. Mankind is constantly evolving and while you're picking on the US man has been conquering other societies world wide throughout the ages. It's ALWAYS been a part of civilization. How we proceed in the future determines how civilized we are. |

People love to use the phrase, "It's (insert current year here), aren't we past this kind of shit by now?" But apparently we are not. The Native Americans are still in the camps we designated them to live in. The Hawaiians are still protesting. We are still rounding up Mexicans. We used to burn people alive for being 'witches' too. It was an accepted part of society. Doesn't mean it was right. |

The Hawaiians want Hawaii back. Makes sense to me. The US wants the US back from the Mexicans that came here illegally. Makes sense to me. You can blame me for not taking action in helping the causes but you sure can't blame me for slavery back whenever. :winkwink: |

And I'm not blaming you or anyone else personally or specifically for slavery. I'm saying as a whole, as 'The US', we've collectively done some pretty shitty things to people, that continue to this day. But yes, it's you, me, and everyone else that is a legal citizen that gets the blame because we vote these idiots into office that make 'laws' that result in a particular race of people being 'rounded up and shipped out'. The Arizona law is not targeting illegals from any other country except Mexico. I find that appalling in 2010. |

Yes,
We're all the descendants of evil savages who should have been put to death. You are too precious for this world - off yourself to avoid ever committing a fault that your great grandchildren will be continuing to pay for. Wait, you voted, didn't you? |

Also, it is one thing to acknowledge that your ancestors made some shitty decisions, and quite another to continue making the same stupid decisions. |
The problem is not what our great great grandfathers did. I agree, I wasn't there. I personally had nothing to do with it.
It's what we are doing now. That's kind of the point. The 'rounding up' of Hispanics is very fucking disturbing to me. Don't know how much any of you guys get out, but there are still plenty of people out there that honestly believe there are lots of groups of people that should be 'rounded up' and something be done with them. I've run into people that genuinely think all gays should be gathered and made to live in one specific place. When is that law getting passed? We still won't allow them to get fucking married. As if it's the government's or the church's decision who can marry. Banning them from getting married is not preventing homosexuality. Maybe that's what they believe, I don't know. When do we invade ChinaTown and start checking all their IDs? When do we start rounding up white people in the northern states and make them prove they aren't Canadian? You can dismiss this all as crazy talk, but I'll bet the Hispanics in Arizona are fucking believers right now. |
West Hollywood is like fucking paradise. I'm not gay and even I want to live there.
