My question is what would you do with the domain name - drawback is the extension being co.uk

depending on the domain name...

even if it is a one word domain you won't get many type ins without a .com so before you spend $$$ on a non .com think about that.

leave your email if you like I might have some domains to sell.

you can also purchase 100 3 or 4 word weaker cam domains...and just forward traffic to your .co.uk , good luck

If you're going to buy a co.uk domain, you should buy the .com's and .net's too. If someone else owns the .com version you already have a strong competitor. I would have to check the stats to be sure but I'm guessing "type-ins" go for .com's much more often than .anything else.
