That was cool, but why wouldn't they stop filming and call for help. lol
Its like putting a rat in front of a Snake.

PornMD 05-14-2010 10:21 AM

Nice...I've always like the octopus but have new respect for them after seeing that. Owned.

awesome ....

Elli 05-14-2010 02:31 PM

Ugh NatGeo has the absolute worst narration and scripting. They're also bad with reusing shots again and again and.... yes, again.

But that was cool video :)

fatfoo 05-14-2010 02:54 PM

Supposedly a shark can kill an octopus, he says.

Round 1! Fight!

Octopus Wins

Well Done!

Fatality!

because national geographic doesn't interfere with nature, that would of happened weather the cameras been there or not.

Jon Oso 05-14-2010 05:52 PM

How in the hell would anyone stop that anyway?

I for one have broken up MANY bar fights in my days, but getting in between a SHARK and an OCTOPUS that is fucking up a shark already... not gonna happen.

Spunky 05-14-2010 06:20 PM

Dogfish aren't much of a shark, didn't put up much of a fight

Even if it was a hand held cam and being observed in the act, what exactly would they do to stop it? That octopus took that shark out quick.

They have too many defenses to be that much of an aggressor. I was just surprised that they had seemingly little effect on the octopus.

SomeCreep 05-14-2010 11:07 PM

Radical.

based on the narration at 2:12 sounds like dead carcasses kept showing up so they set up cameras to figure it out, even if it was filmed live I doubt anyone would jump in and try to pry him loose as he handled the shark with minimal effort so a human would probably be no match as well and who wants cause of death listed as smothered by an octopus. :thumbsup

John-ACWM 05-15-2010 03:49 AM

'Poor' shark didn't stand a chance!

Scott McD 05-15-2010 03:55 AM

bufferover 05-15-2010 06:32 AM

I didn't know that they can do that to a shark

Jarmusch 05-15-2010 07:15 AM

Never trust anything with more than 2 arms

Loch 05-15-2010 07:23 AM

When i started Diving here in BC our instructor was kind enough to tell me about the time she was grabbed by one of these Giants.
Grabbed, pinned to a reef where after it tried to drag her into its den....luckely the opening was just too small for her to slip through.

She was pinned there for a good 10 minutes until her partner could free her

dalila 05-15-2010 07:24 AM

never thought that the octopus can be that dangerous

Cyber Fucker 05-15-2010 07:40 AM

wow... nice beast :D

rogueteens 05-15-2010 08:14 AM

Please tell me that this is from a children's programme? No way can that commentry be from a programme an intelligent adult would watch.

+1

I remember seeing a doco where an orca was chasing a bull seal, which tried to jump into the boat the crew were on... they decided that since their presence wasn't natural they should move the boat away. The orca got the seal.

Far-L 05-16-2010 10:32 AM

something they forgot to mention... this video was made at Seattle Aquarium and the craziest part is that the Octopus was actually in a completely separate tank. At night it found a way to get out of its tank, through a hole only a couple inches in diameter, crawl across the FLOOR... CLIMB INTO THE BIG TANK... pinning the sharks, snacking, then crawling back into its own tank. They could figure it out so that is why they brought in the cameras.

Now that is freaking crazy. And anyone that doesn't think a spiny dogfish could lay out a pretty nasty bite just needs to spend time with some of the fishermen up here missing fingers.
