Yeah, it's funny how inventions become obsolete. Apparently the book invention is still not obsolete.

epitome 05-24-2010 05:39 PM

So wait, nobody uses them anymore?

I have my entire hard drive backed up to two of them.

Sosa 05-24-2010 08:02 PM

the zip disks were either 100mb, 250mb or 750mb. 100mb zip disks were the originals.

baddog 05-24-2010 08:26 PM

I just got rid of my Zip drive and discs within the last year.

Jman 05-24-2010 09:00 PM

I am getting old to ;-)

Yngwie 05-24-2010 09:06 PM

anyone want to buy my old 80MB hard drive? (just a joke, but the hard drive is actually real) haha This was the hard drive in my first pc. Of course, I only got my first pc in the very early 90's so it's not extremely old. Surprisingly, the hdd still works perfectly.

2MuchMark 05-24-2010 09:44 PM

I've always had a strange fascination with old computers and would love to get my hands on some old storage tape drives like this one

http://www-03.ibm.com/ibm/history/ex...es/PH3420A.jpg

Anyone ever seen these on ebay?

If you're a weirdo like me, what you should do is check out the tour of "old Nasa". Not only do you get to see the original launch pads and some old rockets, but you get to see and touch the original computers used from way back in the 60's. It was so cool I thought I was in nerd heaven. They had a PDP11 there, and some other computer which I was allowed to open up actually had wire-wrapped posts for internal connections. It was awesome!

(Hi ladies!)

LeRoy 05-24-2010 09:51 PM

Almost as bad as remembering these.

10MB hard disc pic

That's reminded me of taking my brother to pick up a Acorn A3010 and the computer shop man saying that 1MB of RAM was more than anybody would ever need :1orglaugh

cardinalvices 05-25-2010 04:21 AM

Do you all remeber these ancient hard drives?
http://www.bible-history.com/images2...bite_stone.jpg
Work for millions of years, need no electricity and are perfectly green when painted.

Seriously tho, 5.25'' FDD is what I started with. MS-DOS 2.0, Norton Commander and Arkanoid.

Roby 05-25-2010 04:42 AM

it was great time !
