The Best Oil Spill Clean-Up Solution? [DEMO VIDEO]

Quote:

Akron, Ohio - A certain company?s manufacturing process generates a fair amount of byproduct ? a highly absorbent, cross-linked foam material. According to Jim, this stuff is completely non-toxic and non-hazardous.

But more to the point ? e.g. The Gulf ? it absorbs 20 times its weight in oil. It also absorbs water, of course, but that water is displaced as the material comes into contact with oil. And the absorbed oil can be used as fuel or possibly extricated and reused.

So why am I turning into a believer? I?ll blame this youtube video that Jim made with his son, Teddy. Granted, it?s not exactly Shamwow-quality, but I think it gets the point across fairly well?

It's probably an Aerogel and it's a very real solution they have been aware of since day one. This company in Tampa offered a similar product.

Get real though, even having thousands of people and boats out there cleaning isn't costing BP nearly as much as a real (effective) clean-up effort would.

All of these home demos in a small pan of water are kind of comical. While I am sure some of these people may have decent ideas, there is a big difference between a small 2 gallon pan of water and a couple hundred miles of water, that at times has 5+ foot waves. You would need millions of tons of that stuff to cover the oil slick, and thousands of barges to hold the collected materials with tens of thousands of boats picking it up. Not to mention if the waves would cause it to sink or not work in the first place.

Also to all of you einstein / mr wizards out there you do know that the gulf of mexico is SALT WATER!!!! stop doing your genius ideas in tap water. Salt water could make the results a lot different. christ sakes...
