Officials: van der Sloot was paid by FBI
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100609/.../van_der_sloot
"WASHINGTON ? The FBI thought it was closing in on Joran Van der Sloot in the notorious Natalee Holloway missing-teenager case, paying him at least $15,000 in a sting operation, federal officials said Wednesday. But when the agency delayed his arrest to help build a murder case, he took the money and headed for Peru, where authorities say he now has confessed to killing a different young woman."

This case just gets weirder and weirder by the minute!

beerptrol 06-09-2010 02:05 PM

Just saw that on yahoo. Talking about fucked up shit

fatfoo 06-09-2010 02:10 PM

This Joran Van der Sloot is a confessed serial killer.

Caligari 06-09-2010 02:11 PM

from the sounds of it apparently he had the FBI fooled, they paid him 15k and he could have gotten away with it...if he wasn't a psychotic killer that is...

ShellyCrash 06-09-2010 02:13 PM

It is 100% beyond bizzare. Its surreal 5 years to the day he picks up another girl in a casino, murders her, and then hires 2 brothers to help him get away. To find out he did it on funds provided by the FBI is fucking nuts. I wonder if the peruvian girl's family can sue the FBI for neglegence?

thats a bloody good question. i am currently here in Lima and the town is quite ablaze with this story. the video footage is chilling, that bastard got away with murder once and somehow he convinces the FBI that not only is he innocent, but that they also pay him money for a sting operation!! WTF!

You'd confess too if you were over in Peru. They dont play by the same rules.

I have no idea what you are talking about, the whole reason they performed the sting was to try and prove he isn't innocent. The FBI got involved because he made contact with Natalee Holoway's family, and Joran was trying to extort 250k. If no money was ever sent the case would have just stalled. They were obviously trying to lure him into giving out info on the whereabouts of Natalee's body. To blame the FBI for the recent death in Peru is absolute nonsense.

It sure won't be a holiday for him in prison there. Karma has her ways

He's probably referring to all of the video footage of Joran and the girl leaving the casino, entering his hotel room and then Joran leaving by himself.

Yeah, I'll be shocked if he survives in prison, but I was surprised to see such lenient penalties for murder in Peru. 15-35 years for murder with a 2 for 1 bonus for time served with good behavior. Meaning even if he got the max he could be out in less than 18 years. Oddly, he could serve up to 50 years in the US for the extortion charges filed against him.

Why can't he be detained while they verify if his story was true and/or simply charge him for extortion at that point? Instead he goes free and kills someone else.

How can they NOT have some fault for this?

i dimly remember taxi, and i have only seen the name "Andy Kaufman" mentioned a few times

it's crazy, considering how original it is

and the synopsis said Carrey's impression was 'eerie', and i didn't get it till i watched the 'Fridays' skit on both youtube/tv at the same time.. almost exactly the same

Marcus Aurelius 06-09-2010 03:29 PM

why would FBI pay him $15k ?

They were trying to prove that he was extorting the Halloway family so that the FBI could get the local authorities to accept an extradition warrant back to the US for arrest and trial.

Look at the timeline, the extortion charges were filed the day Joran fled the Peruvian authorities. He hadn't given them any story yet, he wanted 250k, the money sent to him was to try and string him along and get him to divulge more info. If you want to place any blame, put it on the Aruban authorities who bungled the Natalee case from the outset.

goodsites 06-09-2010 05:44 PM

his hollywood stock just went up i guess, maybe content now for a sequel :/

Vander Sloot has been in many different countries and has had plenty of money even before the FBI was trying to build an extortion case, the two situations are completely independent. He's been floating around many different countries trying to lay low ever since his undercover confession became public in his homeland. The FBI had no jurisdiction to hold him before any charges were filed against him, I have no idea how you think they could have prevented what he did.

crowkid 06-09-2010 06:00 PM
