Bing Gaining Market and Respect

I found this interesting. Bing is getting some decent respect, and inclusion. Also, Apple's browser making a serious push on the speeds to over take the competition. :thumbsup

It Didn?t Make The Keynote, But Safari 5 Is Here (And Faster Than Chrome And Firefox)

One of the things rumored to be appearing during Steve Jobs? keynote at WWDC today was the next version of Safari, 5. That didn?t happen. But Apple occasionally gives us some quiet surprises, and that appears to be the case today as Safari 5 is in fact being released ? at least according to a press release.

While it?s nowhere to be found on Apple?s Safari site yet, nor is it available yet in Software update, the new version is apparently coming today. So what?s in it? Well, like the new iPhone OS, it will have a new option to make Bing the built-in search engine. More significantly, the new version also brings Safari Extensions support ? a new feature which will allow you to ?customize and enhance the browsing experience.? This will allow the browser, which Apple says is used by 200 million devices worldwide (because they?re counting iPhones and iPads too), to match a key functionality of the rival browsers Chrome and Firefox.

About the new extensions, Apple writes:

The new, free Safari Developer Program allows developers to customize and enhance Safari 5 with extensions based on standard web technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The Extension Builder, new in Safari 5, simplifies the development, installation and packaging of extensions. For enhanced security and stability, Safari Extensions are sandboxed, signed with a digital certificate from Apple and run solely in the browser.

Speaking of Chrome and Firefox, while Safari 5 will bring a 30% performance increase over Safari 4, Apple is also saying that the new version is 3% faster than the latest stable build of Chrome (5.0) and twice as fast as Firefox 3.6. All of this is based on SunSpider JavaScript tests of Apple?s latest Nitro engine.

Safari is also adding a new feature called ?Reader? which will make it easier to read webpages by taking away all the excess design (and ads).

I'm really not surprised. Has anyone used google lately, they absolutely dropped the ball with their new extra left panel when you search for pics. It shrinks down the viewing size of the image search area and the search output is severely lacking in recent weeks. I believe they are using a modified code for their searches in terms of images and it's not getting the job done.

Back to the irritating side panel, It's practically a duplicate of the panel on the top. There have been numerous outcry from the public because of it. What a way to fuck up a good search engine and give more market share to Bing in the process. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot :(

I don't use Bing. It is not as popular as Yahoo or Google.

I still use google for anything, and that probably wont change until oter search engines start to provide better search results.

But the reality is I run the same exact campaigns on Google, Yahoo, and Bing, with a unlimited budget for my keywords and Google still does 10x-20x the traffic Bing and Yahoo sends combined. :winkwink:

True dat.

However, depending on the type of campaign being run, or product being sold,... Typically Yahoo/Bing traffic CONVERTS better. It is not always a numbers game in regards to traffic if they do not BUY.

I do not get paid in e-penis traffic stats. I am paid in CONVERSIONS or SALES.

Google traffic always converts the best for me, but I've heard others say Yahoo/Bing converts better as well.. so, I guess it's relative. :2 cents:

However, I concede that there isn't an always/never. It depends on KW/campaign/product among other things. That said, historically for me anyway, Yahoo/Bing/MSN converts better. I get a lot more traffic from Google as well. But I do not care about traffic if they do not buy. I am paid in CONVERSIONS.

I'll take low volume, quality, converting traffic over volume any day of the week & twice on Sunday.
