How did I miss out on The Wire?

I've been watching The Wire on HBO on demand. I'm about halfway through season 3 now. How did I miss this show when it was on originally? It is fucking fantastic!

Jdoughs 06-15-2010 12:23 AM

One of the best shows ever made for TV.

Period!

EliteWebmaster 06-15-2010 12:26 AM

Really, I might have to check it out. I'm still suffering from Lost withdrawals :(

SGS 06-15-2010 12:31 AM

Very interesting series as well. They used real gang members and I think it was series two that they used an actual convicted murderer as one of the hitmen (woman)?

Sarah_Jayne 06-15-2010 12:53 AM

I would thought you would have seen it by now. Simply one one of the best shows ever and the quality never let's up right to the end.

It's pretty much the best thing ever.

Frank Lucas is also in it... Same people are also behind the new hbo series Treme and it's pretty good too. :2 cents:

I watch the first season and though it was good, I haven't seen it since, I thought it was canceled.

james_clickmemedia 06-15-2010 05:05 AM

great show, one of my all time favorites.

I don't know that it was ever cancelled, I think that they just wrapped it up and brought it to an end. Pretty much like the Sopranos.

HBO doesn't generally play like that.

VHNet 06-15-2010 05:58 AM

It's interesting to see a ton of those characters playing in other cop/drug/street hustler movies/tv shows now-a-days. Guess they're either typecasted, or really just want to be in those types of shows.

yeah, 'snoop'.

also the writers are ex-police so there's a lot of reality based shit. each season touches on different areas.

it went from the streets to unions, the school system and the politics

bronco67 06-15-2010 07:10 AM

I wish I could be you, and go back and watch it again for the first time.

JA$ON 06-15-2010 07:13 AM

Its amazing, and just wait.....its gets better and better as it goes on :)

SpongeBub 06-15-2010 07:17 AM

Yep, I'd say that next to Rome, The Wire is the best drama series ever produced. And that includes movies, TV, whatever medium you can come up with.

Wizzo 06-15-2010 07:19 AM

Yea, its for sure one of the best ever! :pimp

hzoltan 06-15-2010 08:01 AM

This was the first series I could watch with my girlfriend and her family...usually they watched craps like NCIS, Criminal minds, etc...so I thought they won't like it, but they loved it thank God :) They were almost crying when **SPOILER** Omar died

And now here's Treme, I'll start it when the season is over!:thumbsup

PlugRush Sascha 06-15-2010 08:02 AM

The Wire is one of my favorite shows of all time. I don't like Treme though.

GonZo 06-15-2010 08:17 AM

The guy that plays Omar has been in several things I have watched over the past year or so. According to IMDB he works pretty solidly - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0931324/

Omar was one of the best characters on tv of all time. You should hate so much about him but yet you don't.

Raf1 06-15-2010 08:30 AM

another show I missed... :)

Yup..it is good to see they are bringing the British actors from it back to the BBC. I've liked him since he was in the British vampire show Ultraviolet in the late 90's.

Aidan Gillen, the actor that played Carcetti, had been so good in the past in the original British version of Queer As Folk that I was unsure I was going to be able to buy him as an American politician. He did have slight issues with his accent when he first joined the cast but then he returned to form and did a great job. He also has a new series starting soon on ITV which co-stars the woman from Ashes to Ashes.

Kimmykim 06-15-2010 09:18 AM

The Wire was quite possibly the best show ever.
