Which was the better movie: GODFATHER III or SCARFACE?

I just had the distinct pleasure of watching these gems again. I was a young teen when I originally saw Scarface. Now, that' I'm older it's like watching these movies with fresh new eyes. Which do you like better?

Forest 06-15-2010 06:57 PM

scareface by far

i was never a big fan of the 3rd godfather

"Say hello to my little friend"

beerptrol 06-15-2010 07:00 PM

I have to agree...Scarface

Jdoughs 06-15-2010 07:02 PM

Scarface for sure, if you had said The Godfather (1st one) it may have been a contest.

Which scene from Scarface did you guys like?

Mine is the scene were Sosa told Tony to never fuck him. Talk about foreshadowing.

Mine is the scene where Sosa told Tony to never fuck him. Talk about foreshadowing. The helicopter scene with F. Murray Abraham was a classic too. Apparently, some local Southern politician here has a (undeserved?/urban legend?) reputation of doing the same thing to petty criminals.

AdPatron 06-15-2010 07:05 PM

Are you kidding?

that's the question. especially watching 1&2 in a row- wow!

best part of scarface is from the point frank lopez is introduced to when he is killed, when i pop the dvd in, that's the only part i watch these days.

Horny Dude 06-15-2010 08:40 PM

GF 3 was allright. I couldn't stand Sofia Coppola, her acting was soooo bad. She had no business being in that caliber of movie.

I never liked Scarface, then again I'm not a thug so I guess it doesn't appeal to me. If MTV cribs came to my house I would be one of the few that doesn't have the Scarface box set.

asianseekerz 06-15-2010 08:49 PM

still the best movie for me is GOD Father III

grumpy 06-16-2010 12:19 AM

scarface is a overhyped boys wanna be thug movie

goldflower 06-16-2010 12:29 AM

Scarface is number 1 !!

Monique Niccole 06-16-2010 12:35 AM

Scarface for sure. Godfather III was a let-down compared to the previous two movies. That said, Godfather I and II probably beat Scarface.

v4 media 06-16-2010 12:54 AM

Scarface just for the line.. 'it's a creampuff'... beats GF3.
GF1 and 2 are great movies though.

TrainWreckContent 06-16-2010 01:13 AM

i have actually never seen the godfather...though scar face is a great movie

CarlosTheGaucho 06-16-2010 01:22 AM

I am afraid I'd be able to memorize most of the Scarface, I guess that makes me utterly disfunctional :)

What many don't know is that the plot in Godfather III is actually based on a true event

Vatican tried to get $ 950 mil. for fake bonds, I guess it was around 1978 - 1980

The amount of greed involved is not surprising since we're talking about Church

seeandsee 06-16-2010 03:02 AM

scarface what else :)

I like part when Tony goes to kill dirty old friend and that fagy policemen is trying to "escape" with words.

quiet 06-16-2010 04:42 AM

my favorite part of scarface is when frank and the cop get done.

JamesK 06-16-2010 04:48 AM

Godfather 1 & 2 are easily better than Scarface. 3? Not so sure.

NBBCash Matze 06-16-2010 05:05 AM

"Scarface" is the best movie of it's kind imo, saw "Carlitos Way" (also with Al Pac + Brian De Palma) last week but I was really disappointed by this flick.. not recommendable. Still looking for some similar movies, any suggestions?

BlackCrayon 06-16-2010 05:08 AM

scareface is more intense.

ruff 06-16-2010 05:13 AM

I live in Miami, Scarface by far. I remember those days and they were just like the movie. Bricks of coke smashing into people's back yards, dumped from planes being chased. Gold, guns and dope, what a fucking town! Except for the 'being killed' part, a lot of fun.

TurboAngel 06-16-2010 09:21 AM

Scarface....

And what's funny is that the movie was actually mainly shot on location in LA since Miami was afraid it would attract "negative feedback"

I sure wish to live (and survive) in those days though.

:)

Agreed with Forest

In your contest Scarface by a landlside but... in a contest with GodFather 1, hummmm let me watch them again ;-)

brentbacardi 06-16-2010 09:31 AM

Scarface is a better movie than just godfather 3, the whole godfather storyline is better though IMO. Scarface was also put together pretty shittily I think but you cant beat the entertainment value and it definitely had shock value when it came out.

The newest version of Scarface has a counter to count how many times they say fuck and I think how many bullets shot... I almost bought it just for that, good drinking games if you haven't tried it!

Also don't hate on Carlitos way, I liked that one too.

Ain't that a bitch! Nearly everything about Miami is shot in LA these days. It just kills me to to see the San Bernardino mountains in the background of shows like CSI: Miami. What a hoot!

NetHorse 06-16-2010 11:21 AM

Scarface.

I like them in this order:

God Father II
Scarface
God Father I
God Father III

I enjoy God Father II more than I, a lot more action and suspense in the 2nd one IMO. :)

dyna mo 06-16-2010 11:26 AM

i always had the impression puzo and coppola reluctantly did gf III

TheStout 06-16-2010 11:29 AM

Surprised Scarface is getting mentioned with GF 1 and GF 2. It deserves to be mentioned in the same category as GF 3. But not even close to GF 1 or 2 imho

ottopottomouse 06-16-2010 11:29 AM

Is it just me or does anyone else here think that Scarface could have used a little more editing. Some parts dragged.

not really on topic, but yeah it's the quintessential ganster movie.

CarlosTheGaucho 06-16-2010 11:39 PM

Other great unconventional gangster movies:

Gangster no.1 with Malcolm McDowell - love that one

Miller's Crossing - Coen brothers going pretty intense

I don't think so, I guess a lot is that it was done in what 1983 or something

All the older movies build the momentum, the attention span was longer and you went to cinema to watch a story and not to watch creepy effects and bullshit

Like I mainly watch older movies cause there's far too many of them on my list yet, but I know plenty of people can't stand them and find them "dragging" simply cause they're used to heavy video clip style editing

EliteWebmaster 06-16-2010 11:41 PM

Scarface hands down. Pacino's best role ever in my opinion.

Godfather 2 onwards was a joke. I would rather watch random gangland violence in south central LA then watch a Godfather movie :(

fatfoo 06-17-2010 12:47 AM

I watched Scarface several times.
I like Scarface better.
