Looking for new hosting company.

My current servers need to be upgraded and my current host are looking way to expensive comparing to other hosts. I have been talking to a couple but need more options. I am primarily considering dedicated servers configured according to my spec, but I might consider co-location as well. I tend to keep a server for 4-5 years. Needs to be a host with it's own datacenter. Any recommended hosting providers?

We can hook you up with killer distributor level pricing on hardware/server for you to colocate, or you can speak with us about a dedicated server.

We definitely have our own datacenter -- 6 in fact.

We have colocation and dedicated servers available in Los Angeles, and dedicated servers only in Dallas.

Hit us up ... we can put together a quote for the specs you want and work with your budget.

I would recommend Hosthead They are rock solid premium hosting with better prices then most who are mentioned, here is some information to save you time

" Started in 2001, HostHead has consistently provided hosting solutions that exceed customer expectations. Our data center is located in Milwaukee Wisconsin, which is ranked as having the lowest risk of natural disasters of the top 50 largest US cities. Combined with our fully secured facility, we have an incredibly safe location for your hosting requirements "

"We own our equipment, server, switches, routers down to the last screw. We also staff our data center with top notch system administrators. You can trust that your data is safe, and our equipment is maintained 24 hours a day."

This could be very well what you are looking for
Good luck with your search

then the only ones in thie thread that do that are pacific rack, the planet and Natnet.

Everyone else buys from a neutral colo facility.

Sure lots of companies say "our datacenter" but they don't own the facility.

Curious why the company needs to own the D/C? Is it for support reasons? What if they have staff onsite?

Hi,

NationalNet just completed building a new state-of-the-art data center last year and would certainly like to be considered for your hosting needs. Please email sales AT nationalnet DOT com and one of my sales guys will take good care of you.

NETBilling-Andy 06-19-2010 07:57 AM

Hi Milambur - we would certainly love the opportunity to provide you with a detailed quote for your hosting needs. We have just launched our new datacenter phoenixnap.com which is, in fact, our own facility (not just rented space in someone else's facility). www.phoenixnap.com

The PNAP is our datacenter with CaveCreek being our hosting company. We have a number of different technology services related to the adult space to compliment our hosting offering as well.

We can sit down with our sales engineers and put together a detailed hardware/software plan for what you need and make the transition as easy as possible. We've been hosting in the adult space since 1996 and I'm sure we can make you an offer that provides what you need at a very good price.

Shoot me an email and we can get the ball rolling. Thanks!

:thumbsup

Advantages of using a company with its own DC is more reliable bandwidth availability and better uptime / faster response to hardware issues.

National Net is the best. Been with them for nearly a decade now.

Thanks for all suggestions, I will send out some more qoute requests tomorrow and decide by the end of the week. As for having their own DC I prefer to cut out as many middlemen as possible to improve support and information flow in the event of hardware downtime. Software support is not really a big issue as I handle most things myself.

Cyber Fucker 06-19-2010 07:17 PM

webair.com for the win! :thumbsup

You need to look at people who operate their own network and colocate inside carrier neutral facilities.

Someone else mentioned Natnet, even they do like what we do and most of the hosts on here and buy carrier neutral space in datacenters/carrier hotels.

Brad Mitchell 06-19-2010 09:30 PM

There is no joy, inherent competence or reliability advantage to owning a datacenter as a hosting company versus co-location. In fact, its counter intuitive since at the very center of things the facilities business is altogether a completely separate competency. You have to weigh in what variables are most important to you, is it facility, hardware, staffing, network- or all of the above?

There are a couple of good providers within this thread and a whole lot of bullshit and misinformation. Some with great facilities but lacking in support, some with garbage warm ghetto Colo, at least one without multiple core routers, several with sub-par network decisioning and a few that put together servers cheaper than machines at Best Buy. Oh, and many of those purported owners are just "lessees" or tenants.

Apologetically, my own site is significantly out of date. I'm not here to market so I will do without the spiel unless you request it personally. My purpose for appearance here, more than anything, is to educate because I see so many material misrepresentations... and the idea that being in the real estate business or having a cheap lease or retrofit on a legacy DC in and of itself as being a qualifier to great hosting is laughable.

For different reasons and different customers, everyone mentioned here is a match for somebody and all mentioned have some happy customers.

I suggest you collect your thoughts on what is most important to you and engage the hosts where the BS and attitude don't stink so obvious from a mile away. If you take your time and pay attention to the nuances of what hosts say and don't say, your final decision will become very clear.

Best if luck!

Actually, Spud, you are misinformed. We do not buy carrier neutral space in a datacenter/carrier hotel like you. We built this one ourselves from installing the power from the substation, to the generator plant all the way to the servers it is all ours.

I would love to show you around our Data Center if you are ever in the Atlanta area and you can see for yourself.

This thread is getting slightly catty! :1orglaugh

SweetT 06-19-2010 10:06 PM

You will probably not see many hosts agreeing with each other on here but I will tell you that the message that Brad is trying to get across above is actually spot on. Even though the OP was asking for a company that owns its own DC, Brad is right....if you are looking for a true MANAGED HOSTING company then them owning their own DC should not be the sole reason for making your decision. There are many other factors you should consider before even worrying about who owns the DC. Yes, we do have our own DC and yes I am still agreeing with Brad. It should not be the deciding factor.

Brad also points out that operating a DC is almost like owning another business....and he is right, again. Trust me I have learned more about power in the past few years than I ever thought I would have to know. The reason we made the decision to do it revolves around our efforts to go after the mainstream colocation business with a vengeance. While we will always be deeply rooted in this community, our growth over the last year has come from and will continue to come from large, mainstream colocation customers who want to locate within our new facility. While our managed hosting division is selling servers and bandwidth by the megabit per second (like all hosting companies), our colocation division is selling suites, cages, power and cooling by the Kilowatt. Does that make us a better managed hosting company? Not by itself it does not. Does it put us in a better position to acheive the goals that we have set for ourselves and our company? Absolutely.

As always, anyone on this board is welcome to come tour our facility anytime. Feel free to hit me up for a personal tour at your convenience.

If you need in the future virtual hosting for simple sites, go with Dream Host

EliteWebmaster 06-19-2010 11:56 PM

Definitely bookmarking this thread. I am expanding and need some new hosting packages. I have been extremely disappointed with my current hosting company lately :(

milambur 06-20-2010 05:35 AM

I'm not really looking for managed servers, only dedicated servers with monitoring and update scripts setup or Co-location. If I need help with software issues I will buy that separately unless it is related to the software I pay for.

Only problems I have really had with my current servers are small hardware issues, intrusion attempt flooding and problems with plesk updates.

Network and power stability are the main things I’m trying to look at now, hard to find good info on many sites thou.

Just to be clear, I’m not really a big client. Don’t use much traffic and I’m only looking for two servers with pretty high end hardware at the moment.

If you wish to send me info about your company you can do that at:
gfy1 ( at ] skinmarketing [ dot ) com

I actually said the only ones with their own facilities were natnet, pacific rack and the planet in the companies that were mentioned earlier in this thread. Hence I was not miss informed. I was simply supporting Natnet in stating you had your own facility.
