Living and working in the United States

I've been pondering relocation for some time. Mostly because I have SADs, and Canada is the worst place for someone with SAD's to live (outside of the Scandinavian countries, any how). I've looked at Florida, Texas, Southern California, and Arizona. I am depressed if the sun isn't out, so I'm looking for places where there is lots of sun all year round. Los Angeles for example has an average of 330 sunny days a year. To say this would eliminate my SADs would be an understatement.

Has anyone who is not an American, ever moved there to live and work? Skills aren't an issue, but I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences.

"The sunniest city in the United States is Yuma, Arizona, which receives 90% of possible sunshine.

The next 4 sunny cities are: Redding, Calif.; Flagstaff; Phoenix; and Las Vegas.

The cloudiest city is Juneau, Alaska, which receives only 30% of the annual possible sunshine. Other cloudy cities are Quillayute, Washington; Elkins, West Virginia; Hilo, Hawaii; and Anchorage."

Q: What are the sunniest cities in the USA?

One way to measure this is by the percentage of the possible sunshine that a city receives each year. The sunniest city in the United States is Yuma, Arizona, which receives 90% of possible sunshine.

The next 4 sunny cities are: Redding, Calif.; Flagstaff; Phoenix; and Las Vegas.

Colorado is pretty sunny if you want to live close to skiing and snow but have a lot of sun at the same time.

pretty sure I have the same issue... seasonal affective disorder.... I get really depressed when it's overcast. Maui was awesome... sun and warm year round. Bay Area is around 50% sun I'd guess, but also less than optimal temps in the winter too, and long stretches of overcast.

I only seek relocation to stand next to a beautiful face.
That's a joke. Good luck with your relocation.

When I came to America in 1981 I much preferred it to Europe. Now, not so much. I liken it to the movie 'It's a Wonderful Life'--every year, bit by bit, Bedford Falls has become more like Pottersville. When I retire, I'll be moving to Italy to be near family and to enjoy the good life.

I suggest Sicily, the South of France, the Caribbean, and the more troppo parts of Australia. Good luck.

What's cheaper, Texas, Arizona, or Florida? Moving to CAlifornia would be like moving to Vancouver part 2, since everything seems expensive as hell in the most desireable places there.

I was watching house hunters the other night, and a huge ass house in texas was like $155,000. Really? That same house here would be like $600,000! Is Arizona the same way?

You can check out city-data.com for specific details on cities you want to consider, including annual sunshine and other weather data.

GrouchyAdmin 06-25-2010 01:37 PM

I wouldn't really suggest coming here intentionally with this economy.

Texas has some very cheap areas with rather big cities... but it also has weather like no other too, so best to spend a bit more and get a place made of brick. Arizona has some rather cheap living as well, cities aren't that expensive either.

Hehe, what is so wrong with the economy that you wouldn't want to visit or live here? If anything, it would be the best time to be here as everything is cheap.
