SOLVED: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? - Jul 2010

It is an age-old riddle that has perplexed generations: Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Now British scientists claim to have finally come up with the definitive answer:

The chicken.

The scientific and philosophical mystery was purportedly unraveled by researchers at Sheffield and Warwick universities, according to the Daily Mail newspaper. The scientists found that a protein found only in a chicken's ovaries is necessary for the formation of the egg, according to the paper Wednesday. The egg can therefore only exist if it has been created inside a chicken. "It had long been suspected that the egg came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first," said Dr. Colin Freeman

but didn't birds develop from dinosaurs which laid already eggs and wouldn't be therefore the correct question: Which came first: the dinosaur or the egg?

I'm unable to answer. I do not know the lineage of a chicken.

Interesting.

I thought only Colonel Sanders knew the answer to this and took it to his grave.

I'm more concerned about the following: scrambled or fried?

crazytrini85 07-14-2010 02:29 PM

I have to agree, the chicken may have come before the egg but what about the dinosaurs who were laying eggs.

The rabbit hole just got a lot deeper.

but where did the chicken come from?

Amputate Your Head 07-14-2010 02:43 PM

No... no dinosaurs. You guys are getting distracted here. Fuck the dinosaurs. Fish were laying eggs too back then, but you didn't see any chickens crawl out of the ocean and sprout claws did you? No.

Plus, the dinosaurs were wiped out by over hunting and poachers long before the chicken evolved from small forest dwelling rat-like creatures into the majestic, proud symbol of American freedom that it is today.

This is such a stupid article, why is every single journalist absolutely fucking clueless when it comes to logic and reasoning?

For everyone's information: neither came first, that's not how evolution works.

Old eggs? Like... they've been sitting around for years as though they have a choice in whether or not to hatch, and they opted to just hang out in the egg instead? What do you mean old eggs?

BV 07-14-2010 02:55 PM

Humans have eggs also. How come no one ever asks what came first, the human or the egg.

Female humans came from rib bones?

Chicken and an egg are laying in bed after having sex. The chicken is smoking a cigarette. The egg sighs and says "well, that answers THAT question" :)

I'm gonna go ahead and take a guess here that it's because humans don't incubate and hatch from eggs external from ourselves. Although I suppose internal/external really makes no difference. No organism, no eggs.
