Best cam for shooting HD vids?
What are people using for HD video now? I always see digital cams on the market now that are also capable of shooting HD video, is it better to get a cam for stills AND a cam for HD video or are the little digital cams good for video? What's the best cam for digital stills?
Lots of questions lol |
do you have any clue about cams and photography or do you need something that is easy to use?
|
Something easy to use that will still give a good result

Last cam I had was the Sony VX

I guess my question is whether it's better to get two seperate cams, one for stills and one for videos, or are they so advanced now that your still camera can also be your video camera.

first of all i would still use separate cams for pictures and videos - lenses and electronics are specialized for each task.
i recently bought my mum the Sony DSC-HX1 as picture camera - pretty good results for the money and absolutely enough for shooting content unless you are Dean Capture ;) for video i don't know, but i would take something that records in raw mpeg2 - not like mostly all consumer cams who already encode to h264 and therefore already dump picture information maybe a sony fx7 - not the latest model but still a very good cam. and big lenses are always better for low light shooting |
The video quality on our new Canon Rebel T2i is amazing but the SD cards fill up fast... Plus I prefer having a real tape copy. Pretty happy with the Canon Vixia HV30 (I think the hv40 is the current one), with a wide angle adapter and directional mic.

Some of the new still camera are shooting video in 1080p , might be worth looking into

I use a Z1u Sony :thumbsup
I use a camera for my stills. I prefer to keep them separate......:2 cents: |

You can always ICQ me and i will give you the pluses and minuses of everything out there for your applications. I know this stuff as well as i know BJJ.lol |
I have a Canon Vixia HFM30 and it shoots very nice video, I'm just looking to add a mic to it.
|
Separate for sure. You can get a good HD cam now for under $1k amazing.
|
Most studios are now using Sony PMW EX1 and are on back orders for the new Canon XF300 which range from $6500 to $7500
Amateur shooters are using HD cams under $1500 ala Canon Vixia HFM30 which produce good results in controlled lighting conditions, but not so well in high contrasty situations. It really all boils down to what your budget is, and what you are trying to achieve. |
