Messenger took our picture
From 114 million miles away, see how insignificant we are. The bright spots in lower left of the image are earth and the moon.

Damn bro...when I saw the title of this thread, I was getting ready to uninstall ICQ and MSN Messenger. Thought they were photographing us for the govt. or something. :1orglaugh

Makes my stomach drop.

I'm curious what the bright oblong thing is at the top just right of center (and the 2 dim ones at the top right too). Everything else in the picture looks round but those 3 things.
|
gorgeous...
theres a UFOddball up there.... another galaxy? |
Yet some idiots on Facebook still think they are so damn important...

Messenger's photo of earth was taken from inside the orbit of Mercury. That is pretty far away, but still fairly close within the inner solar system. If you want to see a truly distant photo of earth, then behold the so called "Pale Blue Dot" taken in 1990 by the Voyager spacecraft from the outer solar system beyond the orbits of Neptune and Pluto, a distance of over 3.7 billion miles away. That little dot is the earth we all live on, there inside the blue circle astride the brown streak that the spacecraft's camera picks up.
