Server response time
 

What is a good server response time in ms? What is considered good or excellent on a high-end dedicated server package.

Any more than 3 seconds is a waste

My server is 34ms round trip from where I'm sitting, but it depends on where your server is and where you are.

What brought this up is, I saw a post by baddog I think, about servermojo.com. Hooked it up and saw that I'm getting 483ms response time. Thought this was extremely high for a very expensive high-end server.

The honest answer here is that your question is phrased in a very ambiguous manner. Can you please clarify as to exactly what response time you're referencing, from where, and to where?

There are literally about a dozen factors to take into consideration, and there is not a prepackaged answer that will do you any good. Don't let anyone else blow smoke up your ass. If you want to ICQ me, I can explain in greater detail, and without a "I'll help you, then beg for you to buy a server" BS.

Its a server ping service servermojo.com, looking into it more, looks like the site is based in Israel. So a ping from Israel to the US, 550ms last ping. I had a friend ping it from Asia and he was getting 305.

I would recommend that your sites/servers are located with a host that's within a reasonable distance to your primary audience. Is this currently the case for you? Those response times are MASSIVE.

US,EU and Asia are my primary markets, Israel... not so much. Setting up with a service in the EU right now to see what the times are from there.

I can think of numerous reasons why I wouldn't host my sites in Israel, and most of them have to do with explosions. :)

Since the US is between the EU and Asia, it would follow logic to consider the response times from a US based server, wouldn't it?
