Anyone Own A Blackberry Torch?

Thinking of picking one up tomorrow. Anyone own one. You like it?

candyflip 08-23-2010 05:20 PM

Probably not. They sold about 1/3 of what they expected in the first week.

Maybe dropping the price in half like they did will spur some interest.

Android phones are where it's at right now, with 200,000 new activations daily.

Anthony 08-23-2010 05:22 PM

I thought about waiting, then opted to go with the new Curve instead.

I have 6 months left on my BB storm, I don't have any idea what I'll get next.
I love the storm, took a bit to get use to, but I have big fingers and the keyboards on most phones are too small
. love the qwerty pad on that phone

GTS Mark 08-23-2010 06:57 PM

A guy I know just got one. He's a tech advisor for vc firms, he says it's crap and not to buy it

How does Android compare to Apple in terms of the app store?

I have blackberry now, but was thinking of picking up an iphone just because of some of the neat home theater and home automation apps you can use with your phone.

Can you get that stuff on Android too?

In-terms of apps the Apple has far more. However, not sure what you meant by home theater, but unlike the Droid X and EVO 4G the Iphone 4 does not have an HDMI out.

If you're with AT&T get the Iphone 4; if you're with Verizon get the Droid X; Sprint the EVO 4G.

That's my :2 cents: :thumbsup

I have dozens of apps on my Android Evo 4G phone and they are all FREE. That's how the Android app store compares to Apple. Most of the apps are free. And I have as much or more functionality than iphone users do with my Android device.

A lot of free apps for the I phone too, they just have better quality control. Androids app store is completely unregulated, anyone can put anything on there, and they do. Apple has to approve apps for their store, (most importantly, they have to be secure).

While the app store on the iPhone is also larger, the number of quality applications from reputable developers is also a lot higher.

They both offer a lot of useful apps though.

The android OS with it's app store is basically a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia.

Apple has about 10 times as much garbage in their App Store as the Android Market.

Most of the top Apple apps have been ported to the Android platform.

Android smartphones do have a lot of functionality that the iPhones do not have however even with the standard features. Full Flash in the browser being just one of them.

The Blackberry Torch IS a touch screen phone, just like the iPhone and Android gang.

Some of the Android phones have trackballs and finger pads, that allow you to control the phone just like a (oldschool) Blackberry.

TwinCities 08-24-2010 04:32 PM

I am convinced people only buy blackberry nowadays simply because they don't now any better. The other options out there are incredible compared to bb offerings.

What do you suggest in a non-touch screen smart phone?

I've played with the Iphone 3's and 4. While neat little toys, my Blackberry has something they don't have. A real keyboard. Played with the Samsung Galaxy S for Tmobile, and liked the phone, but the same problem came up, typing on that small even when held sideways keyboard. My phone does three things. Gets emails, makes phone calls, and the alarm wakes me up in the morning. The BB does all of that well.

The Ipad on the other hand, I love. And the keyboard is a non issue as it's big enough so I don't fat finger anything.

SuzzyQ 08-24-2010 08:32 PM

We love our Androids!

lazycash 08-24-2010 08:40 PM

I was interested in getting the Torch, but read a couple of professional reviews that made me shy away from it, not sure now what to get from Att when I'm upgrade eligible in a couple weeks.

PinkSimC 08-25-2010 03:19 AM

didnt they put the price in half ??

Yep. After selling only 1/3 of what they expected to sell in the first week it was available.

Supz 08-25-2010 05:53 AM

I think i heard on CNN or CNBC that Android phones sold more the iphone and blackberry last quarter. I am sure there is good reason for that, and I am a blackberry lover.

I'd stay away from phones using the windows mobile OS, stick with android or the iPhone.

NaughtyRob 08-25-2010 09:44 AM

Seems way over priced.
