I did it 15 years ago. The biggest adrenaline rush ever, but wouldn't do it again.
You can do it carefully, there are reasonably safe parts of the route. Although there's a lot more people than there used to be so that adds to the risk. Just make sure you've had a good rest and don't do it drunk, its at 8 in the morning.

San Fermin is more than the bull run its a crazy 1 week party.

I did it a few years ago, came really close to getting gored on one of the runs. Had a BLAST. It's not just about the running, it's about a festival and it's a full on Party for several days. Great time. Even if you don't go to run, the party is a blast.

Would do it again.

Best advice given to me: Always keep a drunken Spaniard between you and the bulls
