Am I the only one who isn't worried about Epassporte?

Or am I just too naive? I think it will be back shortly, didn't doubt it for a second. I'm not talking about the visa functionality, just about the money beeing safe there.

Barefootsies 09-06-2010 10:04 AM

Nah. I am not worried either. Just seeking alternatives.

But I also do not have tens or hundreds of thousands frozen either.

fatfoo 09-06-2010 10:06 AM

Epassporte can go fuck itself. People have to settle debts.

fuzebox 09-06-2010 10:13 AM

Nope, not worried yet. It would be impossible to run a business like theirs without the occasional issue with debit cards.

NaughtyRob 09-06-2010 10:16 AM

I received a good amount of $ in content sales into epass a few days ago. I am not worried about getting it out.

CyberHustler 09-06-2010 10:17 AM

Not worried. Just will never use them again even if they un-fuck this. Not looking for any alternatives to fuck me over the same way either. Fuck all you muh fuckas! PayPal FTW, anything else is uncivilized... unless it's a check or direct deposit. Bitches.

HowlingWulf 09-06-2010 10:18 AM

Yeah like Paypal never fucked anyone over lol.

Paypal used to fuck people, but you'd still get your money (after 6 monthz)

Really depends on what VISA is doing to them and at whose request. If they've just froze operations and kicked them out, then the money should be sitting there and, theoretically, they should be able to withdraw it and make other arrangements for re-payment of account balances.

If, on the other hand, the cards were frozen pending an investigation for violation of AML (anti-money laundering) regulations or other violations then it could take months (if ever) to get the funds released to the cardholders.

Infosecurity magazine has an interesting article about the ePassporte issue that seems to indicate that this was a VISA action and not an ePassporte/Bank dispute or problem.

I couldn't post the link because I'm new to this board and blocked until I make 30 posts.

Agent 488 09-06-2010 10:41 AM

that article posts stuff that was just taken off italk or whatever. no one has any real idea, just speculation.

In any debtor-credit scenario, a creditor is reserved the right to sue a debtor in court if they are not paying according to the terms stipulated. Although creditors may choose to settle, legal action does occur to debtors. This does not mean the debtor cannot settle it, but the percentage tends to be higher, and in some cases settlement isn?t possible altogether, so the debtor must set up payment plans with the creditor instead. In the event that a debtor does not have sufficient funds for a settlement or payment plan and a creditor does in win a judgment against the debtor, they may be able to garnish the debtor?s wages, freeze his bank account or put a lien on his property depending on his state. It should be noted that the last situation is rare but it is of course possible.

On Thursday when the announcement was made, I thought it was the end of Epass.

On Friday I started thinking about how Mallick is a US citizen living in the US and he'd have to be in a really fucked up position to run off with the money and forever change his life as he knows it.

Now I'm not worried.
