cirtexhosting steal your traffic

If you have a website hosted with cirtexhosting please check your 404 error pages. Today they replaced your 404 custom page (if you had one) with their own 404 pages who advertise their hosting plans.
(not even add your reff code, if you have one )
Is this usual to all hosting companies???

The only thing similar I've experienced is my host redirecting my website to a website of his during a server change a long time ago. After a stern email he has never done it again. What you are describing sounds pretty abusive, yell at them.

This is a share hosting account I take it? If so what do you expect? Get a dedicated server.

Not at all ... we allow all clients (even on shared hosting) full control of their error pages.

I have an old cirtexhosting account still alive, they didn't replace mine. However, it's always been the default 404 page that advertises their services if you don't create a custom one.

I think its typical of most shared/virtual hosts, but you definitely should have the ability to replace it with your own.

Doesn't seem to have happened to the few things i've got on cirtex. Took everything important and moved it a while ago though as they seemed to have the most unreliable servers of ever and support were clowns.

Yup, same at crohoster.com - we never done anything like that. Client has complete control over his account, files and traffic.

HomerSimpson 09-17-2010 06:49 AM

I think it's same is at hostgator and webair...
I don't have those problems with NakedHosting :thumbsup

MissDiva 09-17-2010 08:03 AM

OK i understand that it might happen to shared accounts...but to change my htaccess in order to get more 404 pages..that is abuse, don't you think? This is what i got yesterday fucking bastards..and yes, their support sucks
