Host Gator is pretty fucking awesome

I just moved a network of 200 sites over to them, a total of about a 200k a day traffic, host gator cheap plans rock!

ottopottomouse 09-24-2010 01:50 PM

Why do people always say things are awesome in the first 5 minutes rather than after a couple of months when they actually know what its really like?

Please elaborate then...

TheDoc 09-24-2010 02:00 PM

Don't you pay per domain? You can get a dedicated plan to normally beat host gator once you add that may sites in.

HerPimp 09-24-2010 02:01 PM

get out now

Jdoughs 09-24-2010 02:02 PM

A brand new Lada feels like a great little car the first day you start it up to.

In 6 months it's a piece of shit.

wolfshade 09-24-2010 02:05 PM

Wait till you encounter their caching servers :D

minicivan 09-24-2010 02:07 PM

Hostgator is one of the worst webhosts online. You get what you pay for. You will learn that soon. Hope you are not trying to run some scripts on your sites! :)

cambaby 09-24-2010 02:08 PM

All you guys "wait till" x = y + z

Please show me better for cheap :) each site only gets about 1k max daily

fris 09-24-2010 02:09 PM

just hope they dont pull the plug on you and tell youto move to a dedicated server, they usally do that if the sites get too big.

icymelon 09-24-2010 02:11 PM

host gator is great when they work and you dont need any support. and the only reason you need support is because they dont run their network properly so good luck

wehateporn 09-24-2010 02:17 PM

I moved to Hostgator after getting messed around with my previous host. I pay $15 per month, I've never had any problems, I can go to their live support 24 hours a day and they'll always help me out if there's anything I need. I have used their live support many times and they've got some proper web people there, not cheap fakes. 10 out of 10 from me

It's not a big deal, if you want to buy garbage instead of quality to save 10-15 bucks a month, good on you.

Don't complain once you get assfucked by them though. There is more horror stories around about them then a-plus.net.

What kind of sites do you got running there? Most of mine are mainstream autoblogs but there are a few edgy sites that might get some traffic spikes, just curious :)

Hostgator is great for a one site type solutions, add sites, add scripts and next thing you know things aren't working properly and you need to upgrade this and upgrade that. In 3 months with them, I have had to upgrade accounts 3 different times which all resulted in waiting for DNS to move over, and where I practically couldn't update my sites during that 24 hours.

I have a site that is updated about 6 times a day by me, and it was a huge nightmare each time. Also when they upgraded my accounts, they downgraded some of my resources on things, so like one day I went without email, the list goes on and on. I think I FINALLY have everything stabilized over there for now, but I will not be upgrading again with them, when they request it this next time, I will be taking all of my sites and just moving.

The hassle isn't worth it.

Well obviously adding a site that gets 10k uniques a day t oa baby plan isnt going to work, especially if you are using something bloated like Wordpress

It's one site, WeHatePorn.com , it gets over 5,000 uniques a day and runs on Wordpress

The last host pulled the plug one day as they said I was using too much bandwidth

Naked Hosting

You can get in the same data center as Nat Net and their hosting isn't catered towards people that get 4 hits a day on their personal blog -- 3 of those hits from themselves.

Let's talk about how you have 200k a day in traffic and cannot justify the cost of a dedicated server. Maybe you should spend more time trying to monetize your traffic and less time ranting on GFY.

Its not one site dip shit its SEO hosting hundreds of sites. I dont have to "spend time" on them they are making money by themselves automatically. Different IPs HERP DERP

I was with Hostgator, however, have moved to another server... Only because the new server is more to my satisfaction. About the same price, but more of a personal service from a guy called, Max www.adulthosting.com

Hostgator are brilliant. I was with 3 different plans & ended up with a dedicated server that really rocked. Fast & efficiant with service similar.

Good for you & stick with them unless you want to step up to a 24/7 rocks on server with adult hosting :pimp

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 09-24-2010 05:01 PM

I spent pretty much my first 2 years hosted with Host Gator, and never had any real issues with them. I only moved to a dedi to accommodate scripts I wanted to run.

Deej 09-24-2010 05:04 PM

Worst host I ever dealt with.

Have u ever used hostgator ?

I have used them for over 3 years now and for small websites they are great. Their support is top notch and thier prices are good. I have never had downtime with them either. They went out of thier way to help me when one of my sites got hacked which was through a hole in the script. They even went as far as tracing they guys IP right down to what ISP he was using.

charlie g 09-24-2010 05:40 PM

I have had a reseller plan with them for over 3 years and never had a complaint. I don't run any resource intensive scripts or have heavy traffic through the server, but why would I expect to anyway?

cambaby 09-24-2010 05:49 PM

Looking like some good reviews on sites up to 10k traffic and not heavy hog scripts :)

If only I could go back to the days where I only spent $15/month on hosting.

I spend over $1,500/month now.. :Oh crap

harvey 09-24-2010 06:35 PM

If you use it for what they're intended, HostGator rocks, at least in my experience. I have a couple servers with them which I use for small sites, development and stuff like that and never had a problem, I needed support only once and I got an answer in like 5 minutes.
However, I wouldn't use them for large sites, I'm a pretty realistic person and even though paying a couple bucks for my great mega tube sounds amazing, I know it will never work. But for what they're intended, they're perfect.

I have a load of websites set up for peoples small businesses that are sat on hostgator. They total about 11,000 visitors a day and everything has been fine. Your post just made it sound like you had expectations of running a 200k network off one of their cheap plans without being kicked off or having the server feel sick.

You can't say something is fantastic as if you are recommending it until you have actually had it for a while and it has done everything you wanted it to do.

It's exactly the same as people who buy a new phone and go around telling everybody how great it is. It may be great forever or it may break in a week and really piss you off - not so great then after all.

2012 09-25-2010 03:28 AM

someday , when they grow up ... they'll get their very own data center
