I am going to estimate 8 to 10,000 who at least let themselves be known from trade shows - webmaster boards and affiliate programs (even if they sign up and don't do anything)

There are a lot that never show their face...

It fluctuates from 8000-12000. Everytime it gets too crowded something big happens, like Tubes, or no more pay per click and shit like that. Or big sponsor closes its doors. Every summer part of the crowd disappears. Then, by fall, new university students gather around the fire and start telling secrets of making money on porn, then by the end of November the webmaster crowd starts to grow again reaching its highest by April each year..

I'd estimate about 10,000 with the number dropping as things consolidate or contract.

There's like ~40-50k members of this board. A lot of surfers, fakenicks and a lot of webmasters are not here of course but I'm sure it's a lot more than 15k.

Our Japanese side has 50k active webmasters.

Glad we never used epass to pay affiliates. We dodged a bullet on that one :)

I once did work for one guy who has a killer domain name and runs a pay site. He bought his domain in 1995 or so, and him and his wife have been running it ever since. Never attends any shows, never posts on any boards, never needed to. No affiliates, just a pay site with a join page. He went from bring a young broke twenty-year old in NC to a multi millionaire in Florida living in one of those communities that is an airport -You know, because he parks his plane in his garage.

Another example is Wifey's World. No one really knows who they are, but they've been making bank for years.
