If you had to start again from scratch what would you do?
Hello GFY! I guess this is my first propper thread here but ive been a longterm luker for probably around 5 years. Go back to 2006-7 i was an adult affiliate doing good money, $10k+ per month through SEO. At the end of 07 my site got penalized and i lost all my traffic and rankings.
Ayway, after that i left the adult industry and became a professional poker player and have been doing that since then. Long story short, im not earning much playing poker anymore because the games have gotten a bunch tougher. If you had to start from scratch again, what would you do? I have low $xxx'xxx capital but dont want to invest it all. As far as i see my options are as follows: - Buy a site earning money and develop it (Adding content, getting more links, improve monetization) - Start a portal from scratch (spend money on people to help me build links, add masses of content and rank for longtails first then big terms after) - The same as above but do it with a legal tube site. - Create individual small affiliate sites (try and get absolute match domains and rank each one for a few phrases) Thoughts people :) |
If i had to start all over again, i'd do traffic stuff instead of programming. With coding i only make as much as I work. Not to say traffic isn't work, I think in the long term there is more money in it

Thoughts?
Someone who doesn't capitalise their i's, can't spell "proper", doesn't understand basic punctuation for words like "I've" and can hardly make a coherent post, well, my thoughts are you're a muppet. |

So whatever contribution you were going to post, probably wouldnt be of any value whatsoever. |
I would use blackhat SEO until I had a decent budget to hire people to build up some blogs in some mainstream niches.
|
Ugh, forget it. Read the post wrong!

I'd get a 9-5 job as a secondary and when I'd see porn go down sell everything, continue with 9-5 and find another hobby.
|
I would do the exact opposite of what mikesinner is doing.

Find a (micro-)niche and pwn It

As a poker player and former adult webmaster, no mainstream business will want to have anything to do with you. You need to set yourself up in mainstream. Do something legitimate before you get back into adult. You are screwing yourself big time and you don't even seem to realize it.

If I could go years back, I would get heavy into retail ecommerce sites. Online shopping will only continue to grow.everything from dog toys to furniture...

If thats the case, i have no intention of doing that. Ive made a bunch more from poker/webmastering that i can doing other things. I have no formal qualifications etc. But if you mean, in terms of opportunity? U think mainstream affiliating offers better rewards? |

I would run from this industry as fast as possible.... or, get back into it Elbow deep and stay focused on SEO

Well if i would go years back i would.....
But he is not asking that ;) If you had to start from scratch now what would you do. If i had to start from zero i am not really sure. Probaly blogs as it is the cheapest way. Will take months to see some income but should be steady and growing. Depends really what you know. If you know nothing then starting anything is very hard. When i started 10 years or so ago i had no idea and it took me 1 year to even start earning anything. But i really didn;t know anything. No webmaster boards, no contacts.... Also everybody talks about mainstream. One thing i would really have to start from scratch if i would do it. But i have no idea where to start so feel free to post some info site or tips. |

buy sites making money up to 9 months of revenue, build up them a little bit and make good ROI in 12 months and you are good

Try explaining the hole in your CV to an employer. But then again, you say yourself that you have no formal qualifications, so you can spare yourself the time of writing a CV in the first place. |

I would amend to say make it one that makes your balls jump. If you love it that will show in the way you present the material and will make for much better sales. I think I would find just a few micro-niches that I am in love with and make a review site type thing |
I would do the exact same thing I did years ago in regards to porn.
I would take a few grand, buy a camera and lights, get some skeezers, and start shooting. I would make my money back in clip store revenue in 30 days, and after a few months launch a pay site or three. I would then make profit on the porn site, custom content, DVD's, and upsells. While continuing to make back all production costs in 1st 30 days on 32 scenes. Over time, I would learn how to continue to maximize revenue, and would enjoy a decent lifestyle with 2-4 hours worth of CONSISTENT work per day, 5 days a week. Making money in this industry is not that hard in the first place. However, most want to make millions and work 10 minutes a day. Which is unrealistic. :2 cents: |
i wouldn't start from scratch in adult today....there are many other ways to make money online.
