Did anyone experience paypal frozen because of adult related transaction?

I know many people buy adult links, domains, advertising using paypal. But its against TOS of paypal. So did anyone have problems with it?
Ok usually paypal does not know the transaction was adult related, but lets say you sell advertising and buyer inputs "payment for ad space on xxxporn.com site" subject with his payment. Would you have your account locked then (in case if paypal staff reviews your history) ?
Cheers

you're always taking a chance, 'nuff said.

I had mine closed when I shipped content to another member on GFY and that member wanted a license for the content, which I gladly signed ,scanned, emailed..then he still attempted to file a paypal complaint...then I fed-ex him a copy of that license since he wanted a "REAL" copy...but did not drop the complaint..so I had to show Paypal..he was fed-exed docs and the original package...they raised the red flag and both of our accounts, locked up... so there's my story..good luck to u

Happened to me 3 times.

woj 11-02-2010 05:13 PM

it's a gamble, if they find out they will give you hard time about it... one upside is that eventually you should get your $$ back, but not without a lot of drama... :2 cents:

Did you get your money back afterwards? Like the posters bellow you suggest?

Whats the drama and whats usually happening for the whole few months? :(

I stopped buying domains at Moniker via PayPal, because they always give details about the domain purchased in the Paypal transaction details.

Whereas Namecheap simply lists the transaction as domain purchase or something similar, and sends you a receipt with the details.

Either way is flawed, but when using PayPal, I'd rather be safe than lose my account and have to start all over again, updating everything I pay with PayPal to the new account.

alias 11-02-2010 06:24 PM

Would be nice if they chilled out.

candyflip 11-02-2010 06:26 PM

If you don't use an obviously adult email address and you don't send to any obviously adult email addresses then you have nothing to worry about.

It really is just a matter of not being stupid.

Barry-xlovecam 11-02-2010 06:31 PM

Many years ago, yes. As soon as they realized all my transactions were encrypted CGI postbacks ? they released my money to me within 10 days and banned me ....

PayPal are Asshats. (My personal opinion.)

Are you saying they do not check subjects? Ok both emails are not adult, but subject indicates adult payment. Safe? I could ask people not to write anything in subject line, but lets say somebody absent minded types in "for ad space on XXX porn site" in it? Still safe?

Another scenario - somebody opens a dispute and expains to paypal that something went wrong, gives all the details and they discover it was adult transaction. I hope one thing stopping him from doing that is that he would get his account frozen as well?

Guys with frozen accounts because of that - could you post how did paypal find out you were doing adult transactions?

Thanks

they just said i broke their policy in regards to adult related material (no clue how they knew but whatever ) and that my account would be limited and funds frozen and id get it back after i think they said 75 days or some random number

Jim_Gunn 11-02-2010 10:03 PM

I have had business and personal Paypal accounts for several years now. I don't use either of them a whole lot but I do sometimes accept payments for small content orders or make payments for ads and certain things with my business account and I haven't had any disputes or issues even though one of my adult domains is in the email address.

NetHorse 11-02-2010 10:36 PM

I didn't know they could lock your account for buying adult related advertising. :Oh crap I always use paypal when I buy ads on juicyads and have never had an issue. :question

amateurcanada 11-02-2010 10:40 PM

PAYPAL accepts American Express cards for loading - if you guys don't remember years ago when PAYPAL use to process for porn sites and dvd sales - but with AMEX making changes so did paypal.

HOWEVER, recent changes in paypal allow TANGIBLE products to be sold with paypal - ANY discrepancy will result in customer refund if filed, but legally and contractually you can sell dvds etc. with paypal.

Hope this helps :)

They closed mine because I put a donation button on an adult site.
Did not take them long to close it.

My funds were locked for several months. I then could request a wire.
And my banking details are on paypal's blacklist to this day.

That's why you tell the buyer exactly what he should put in the subject field. If he doesn't or put something else in there, you know he can't be trusted and you shouldn't do business with him ever again.

icymelon 11-03-2010 03:04 AM

selliing content with paypal is against tos. other adult related things are ok

Paul Markham 11-03-2010 03:33 AM

We were for ever being asked why with a US company and bank account we were clearing money from the Czech Republic. Eventually they suspended us and cancelled our account. We got the money back after 6 months.

My advice is to never leave a lot of money in the account.

Pretty much nailed it here.

Antonio 11-03-2010 04:19 AM

Got mine froze once only for using an email addy from one of my adult sites - the domain didn't even sound adult at all, so they took the time to actually visit the site, saw that it was adult, and froze my account. I sent them only one email bitching that I didn't break a single of their rules and they fixed my account.

Why would you put something adult related in the subject? Again, that's just asking for trouble.

Not me and not on purpose, but if the buyer is for instance stupid or forgets NOT to put it there..

Can anybody confirm it? So why sponsors don't pay affiliates if thats OK. I doubt your statement, could you show me supporting TOS or something?
Thanks

Si 11-03-2010 06:46 AM

Not frozen

BANNED

3 accounts now. Still using them though.

Never use adult emails, send invoices to the buyers that way you can make sure it is safe.

Nicky 11-03-2010 06:51 AM

Happened to me a long time ago, like 7 years or so. Got $4k frozen, got them back after 6 months.

pornguy 11-03-2010 07:00 AM

Any ref to adult and your account may be blocked and they have sat on funds for 6 months on some people.

Argos88 11-03-2010 08:59 AM

I STILL wonder how the guys from EXTREME-BOARD.com have been able to receive hundreds of paypal donations and not get banned.

STILL WONDERING. We are talking about an ILLEGAL ADULT FORUM with TERA BYTES of adult content and content that is banned in many U.S. states.

Strange.

Kinda hard for somebody to do this if you send a money request instead of giving them your PayPal email addy and leaving it in the hands of another.

A little common sense goes a long way. :2 cents:

Did you get your money out of those 3 accounts? Its fortunate that most of the people who posted finally got their money. However I am still not sure what is going on during those few or 6 months waiting period :)

It really really suck!!!
Was it frozen for life or just for 6 months?

2MuchMark 11-03-2010 07:38 PM

they can freeze your funds for 6 months minimum.

Never underestimate the stupidity of someone who is unable to follow simple instructions. If if you send them a payment request, they sometimes find it necessary to put a porn or epassporte related message in the message box.

passionreviews 11-04-2010 04:56 AM

Wow paypal seems like much more drama than it is really worth.

Machete_ 11-04-2010 06:34 AM

yes it happenes

it's risky and not worth it

Yes thats what I was worried about. You can't control everything 100%. So did you get any trouble because of those porn related message box texts?

ParlourCash Karl 11-04-2010 08:58 AM

About 5 years ago had our account shut down, got the funds back in 6 months.

ThunderBalls 11-04-2010 09:05 AM

Paypal loves to freeze peoples accounts, they are technically not considered a financial institution so they are not bound by any federal regulations and do whatever the fuck they want. They make 10's of millions just on the interest of frozen accounts.

I had a paypal account for 10 years, a couple of years ago I sold a diamond ring on ebay for $1400. The buyer was happy and left positive feedback, a few days after the transaction I went into my paypal account and the fucking thing was on 'limited access', meaning I couldnt access my money or do anything else. I called paypal and they told me the item I sold was a high risk item and I would have to wait 6 months for my money. After researching their tactics I found hundreds of other people they pull the same shit with, there have been at least 2 class action lawsuits against paypal for this kind of shit and both times they simply settle for millions of dollars and continue doing the same thing. They are as crooked as they come.
