So finally got to see The Social Network last night.
If the film can be believed, the owner Mark Zuckerberg came over as a real ass hole. He had no problems stealing an idea off other guys,Divya Narendra, Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss, even though he did take it to another level it was their idea. Then tried to deny he did and not give them any compensation by using lawyers.
Was never sure from the film what the relationship was between Mark and the other three guys. Was he paid for his work, meant to be paid or doing it on a split of the proceeds that were never envisaged. Or was it just a project? What ever it was their original idea. Then he tried to screw the original backer and co founder Eduardo Saverin out of the shares of Facebook and again reverted to lawyers to try to keep his money. Of course money didn't mean anything to him. Until he could screw someone out of it and they wanted what was rightfully theirs. I thought Jesse Eisenberg did a great job of portraying him. Good film. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. |

I would say it was extremely interesting -- if anything.
I don't think the Winklevoss twins got screwed, BTW. Sauverin got screwed. |
Do you a senior's discount or something??
|
Every character in that movie, was a self pretentious asshole.
|
Mark Zuckerberg actually made a statement saying the portrayal of him was not accurate and that he's actually a really nice guy.
But that's what he WOULD say isn't it? Hmmm. |

If you want to read a bit this is a pretty informative article on how Zuckerberg stalled building harvardconnection.com and took their idea, which he was coding for them, to launch thefacebook.com

It was definitely a better movie than I thought it would be.
|
I'll pass on that movie.
Hate Facebook, so certainly don't want to watch a film about it... |
The first time I heard about the movie my thought was - Mark sponsored the film and its about Mark being the good guy. I am happy I was wrong. Now the question - was it sponsored by some of the other parties or its pretty much honest?

this movie is as close to being a true portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg as The Olive Garden is to Italy.
that being said, id still want to see it :1orglaugh |

which makes the movie a soiled diaper, who wants to see how a bunch of assholes got rich screwing each other over? No redemptions, no moral, no justice, no story... hmm reminds me of another movie that came out this year... |

But if you were to describe the guy to a writer, it would come out as it did. |

all of a sudden this place really started to stink...
what the fuck is that smell.... smells like olga's boots after she left them out in the rain for 3 weeks and a pack of wild dogs took a piss and shit all over them..... . . |
I watched that movie few days ago and there are numerous questions unrevealed about FB history but what a hell. Looks like a real jerk Mark or it was just for the movie

The second time watching the movie, after knowing this, it becomes painfully obvious. |

was a good movie :thumbsup
i had the same idea before thefacebook.com was launched, but without programming skills my site was ran from a vB script. it had different forum sections for each high school and sub forums inside there for indepth discussions, less than 50 people registered, and i couldnt get people to use it, i had hopes it would replace most chat with msn messenger with private messages would have been awesome to know what was going on at school for those who wern't in the "in" crowd, if there was a fight it would have been posted about etc. |
Read the book that inspired the movie and then try to say the same thing about the twins and Divya, without Zuckerberg their idea wouldn't have ever gone anywhere.

Almost every large company has some awful fucked up story behind the story where success was built on the backs of people royally fucked over. There's no justice for these people, there's no moral tale. DateDoc posted a really good read, the original brain trust w/ HarvardConnect fucked up by laying everything out on the table to someone when they had nothing in writing to prevent this guy from walking away w/ their ideas. They invited a fox into the hen house. ... and as much as they feel they were screwed and fucked over, really they weren't fucked that bad. I wouldn't want it to happen to me, but they didn't have a company stolen from them, just a concept. They didn't lose their life savings, they didn't lose their homes or their livelyhood. The only thing that makes it seem titanic is how huge facebook has become, and it has become that way based on how Zuckerberg has evolved and grown the concept, which ended in a vastly different end product. The thing about the web is that even though Zuckerberg fucked them so he would get a jump on the launch, if you build a better mousetrap in the end it won't matter. |

:2 cents: |
At least the four guys featured in the film who sued him walked away with money.
Divya Narendra, Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss got a fat check and probably more than they would of made from it. Co founder Eduardo Saverin came out with some sort of settlement that was never disclosed. But sure it wasn't just getting his name back on the top of the site as co founder. |
It's interesting how you describe the movie. It seems like an interesting battle over profits and who gets a bigger share.
