So food stamps are on plastic now? And wow is it easy to get this..

So this girl I know recently moved out of her parents place (both ex FBI) and into a house like 5 miles away but in the same town. Windermere, FL. If you aren't familiar with Windermere it's basically the rich part of Central Florida, where the whole Tiger Woods thing went down.

She gets to talking about how great it is to have her own place now and I make a comment about how expensive it is living in Windermere and how expensive the Publix (a grocery store usual found in nice areas) is. She tells me that she doesn't care how expensive the groceries are because she has a $300/mo food stamps card that she signed up for. :Oh crap

I mean her family isn't rich and on her own she definitely isn't (although has a nice job), but she drives a brand new 3 series BMW for Christs sake. How easy is it to get on this WIC shit seriously?

The goal is to create more people who see "the gubment" as the solution to all problems.:2 cents:

lol @ publix (a grocery store usual found in nice areas)

funny, because in S.FL they are in every ghetto neighborhood.

Saw someone using one of those cards here locally. She filled her cart with sports drinks. As I was going out to my vehicle, she was unloading them into a brand new Denali. Love it.

Eh, they are everywhere pretty much, but in the nice areas it's always a Publix.

WIC is not a food stamp program. Millions of working poor are eligible for food stamps.

I don't know if it's WIC or what, WIC is just what I see in stores so I figured that. All I know is she said it's a "food stamps card".

Either way she isn't poor in the least bit, even for a 19 year old on her own. It seems like they're just giving them to anyone young with no credit history or something?

Food stamp eligibility is determined by income and number of dependents one has...credit history does not come into play.

I had food stamps while in college. Most students did. Took about 20 mins to apply and got my card in week. It was around $100 a month. And whatever wasn't spent was rolled over.
Also lived in government housing for students.

I would scrounge in my couch after parties for change and that's how I paid for gas money. I had no shame in putting $3.45 in change on the counter at the gas station.

Also. When we would throw parties we would have plastic sacks for people to throw thier cans. We would take the cans to the grocery store and recycle them for 15 cents a piece.
That would pay for a couple 40oz OEs for each of us.

Seems to have worked quite well here.

Families where the parents have never worked and the children will never work either as it isn't worth getting a job and losing all the handouts.

NinjaSteve 11-23-2010 05:03 AM

Reminds me of Ol' Dirty Bastard who was still on welfare while rapping.

beerptrol 11-23-2010 05:08 AM

people like to work the system

Jon Oso 11-23-2010 05:17 AM

I know a lot of people that have the EBT card (foodstamps). Some because they genuinely need it to help provide food for their families....

others who pay cash for alcohol and use the EBT cards to buy groceries.

A LOT of strippers I know are always offering to buy me $250 worth of groceries for $100 in cash.

seeandsee 11-23-2010 05:18 AM

we will be on plastics soon

Gerco 11-23-2010 05:42 AM

If I'm not mistaken you could report her. If she owns that car. (meaning if it's in her name not dads). The cars value would make her ineligible. One reason I think you see all those pieces of shit cars with expensive rims and stereos in them... the car isn't worth shit so you can still get your welfare and adding the bling to it makes it worth even less....

Guess you can call them "welfare wheels"

Juicy D. Links 11-23-2010 05:46 AM

Starbucks takes those WIC thingies lolol

The value of the car nor is the value of a home...even if she owns both outright...would make her ineligible. She would not be allowed to own two cars or two homes.

pornguy 11-23-2010 06:19 AM

there was a discussion about it here not long ago and how well some of these people do on food stamps and " The Check "

Chris 11-23-2010 06:33 AM

for a couple years now they have lilttle food stamp and wic machines here at all registers .. it is integrated into the credit card machine instead of swipping the card they stick it into a slot on the side of the machine

Bingo, was thinking the same, they are in every neighborhood despite demographics. They just ran Winn-Dixie and Albertsons out of biz around me.. they are killin' it.

Anyways for original poster, yes, people take advantage of the welfare, my Uncle Michael told me a story of when he graduated he first got a job at the welfare office, and although he was sleeping in a 1 bedroom apt with no couch or table and just a bed on the floor cause he earned so little, his boss ordered him to give people more money than he was making working at the welfare office so families can buy new couches, and other furniture, then he comments on the gold teeth, the jewelry, the cars and he goes nuts.

A) Food stamps have been on card for about 5-6 years now at least.

B) WIC is not foodstamps.

It's going to vary by location, but you're not allowed to have any money in savings or checking account any investments or retirement accounts or a car worth more than $5000.

TurboAngel 11-23-2010 09:52 AM

http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/howtoapp...guidelines.htm :winkwink:

I knew a few people who did this. all you have to do is show a pay check for 2 months that you make less than the requirement and your golden. they rarely audit and you are supposed to have an employer update them when you increase your salary or wage.

the funny thing is, looking at this, my gf would qualify :1orglaugh:1orglaugh
