A New Member Hello, and a Few Questions
Firstly, hello! My name is Josh, and I'm a programmer, located in central Illinois. I do web programming, and lately iPhone, Android, and some Kindle stuff. I'm looking to supplement my income with some adult oriented stuff, but have been unable to get a few of my biggest questions answered with regular Googling, so I hope you guys can help me - it'd be much appreciated!
I'm looking to create an Android app that will use affiliate content. Twistys, Brazzers, etc. I've already spoke to them and they've authorized my idea. I'm wondering though: As a resident of Illinois (Piatt County), am I allowed to do such a thing? The content is hosted on the Adult site's servers, so I should be fine on that right? How much do I have to make so that I should claim it on my taxes? What do I claim it as? What payment option should I choose when signing up for affiliate stuff? I see I would probably use "Hold Payment", "Non-European Transfer", or "Paxum". What is the difference? If I use the 2nd one, it looks like they want bank information. Should I use my regular bank? Or, is there a good online bank someone recommends for activities such as these? Thanks so much guys! I'm really excited to get going, but want to make sure I'm educated! |

Welcome.
I don't think there is a problem using an affiliate program's content for an app. Isn't $600 the threshold for having to report the extra income? Why not open a Paxum account and receive payments into that account? The account is free and simple to set up. You can make transfers from Paxum to your bank account as well. Good luck.

If you can hit me up, my contact info is in my sig I would love to discuss what you are doing as far as apps go... as for your questions....
As a resident of Illinois (Piatt County), am I allowed to do such a thing? The content is hosted on the Adult site's servers, so I should be fine on that right? You shouldn't have any issues but I'm no lawyer. How much do I have to make so that I should claim it on my taxes? What do I claim it as? Technically you should be claiming all your income no matter where it comes from, it can be claimed as commission sales... Remember your deductions, any hardware etc, your cpa will help you with this. What payment option should I choose when signing up for affiliate stuff? I see I would probably use "Hold Payment", "Non-European Transfer", or "Paxum". What is the difference? If I use the 2nd one, it looks like they want bank information. Odd that a simple check isn't an option, Paxum is growing and an easy way to withdraw funds from an ATM. If you are getting large commissions go for wire, less chance of hearing stories about lost checks and limits your loss should something happen to Paxum. Should I use my regular bank? Or, is there a good online bank someone recommends for activities such as these? Regular bank! If it's one thing those of us that have been doing for a while have learned, online banks or e-wallet solutions can vanish with your cash.

You guys are pretty great! I'll probably go with Paxum, and withdrawl to my normal bank. I'd still like to know the legalities around Illinois, but I suppose since the content is on other people's servers, and the app would be downloaded from a server that is approved for adult content, it should all work out. Maybe if I make a bit of money, or it looks like it'll be a bit of viable income, I'll just talk to a lawyer.
I did email you some basic stuff about my idea Kenny B, feel free to hit me back whenever, I love discussing these sort of things! - Josh |
