using google analytics to track what join link the user clicked on to become a member

I see goals and events, but I'm not seeing how to tie them together.

I have dozens of events that are clicks on different join links and I want to tally the join links that can be attributed to a visitor becoming a member. How many members are a result of clicking on the join link in the video post roll? The join link in the footer? etc.

Right now, I can tally the number of clicks on a join link and I can tally the number of joins, but I can't attribute direct causality. At best, it's something like 200 clicks on the footer join link, 100 on the header join link, and 20 joins.

Is there any way to attribute the number of joins to a specific event click?

Well there surely is a way but hard to think about one. How about you create a session id (also for non logged users) and then insert this non logged id in your javascript? this unique id will be attached to the user and all events use this unique id as eventLabel?

Not so sure this would work... (As you have to store it even if the user isn't logged) but you can't now without trying..
