Question about that annual Visa/MC "high risk" fee

You know that $1000 annual fee that Visa/Mastercard makes adult sites pay to get bill processing ($500 per card) because they are "high risk"? Does anyone know if you need to get approval for both Visa and Mastercard at the same time or can you just do one to start? If you can do this, is one card more popular than the other among porn consumers and if so which one?

Personally I only use Visa for my purchases so I'm wondering if they're the most popular. I'm thinking of just getting Visa approval to start as a way to save some startup costs for a paysite I may be doing and then add MC later once the site starts generating money.

You can. I wouldn't suggest though.

You would block several sales to potential customers.

Visa/Mastercard sales vary a lot depending on several variables (namely per country).

If you're thinking about cutting that to cut costs... Your project is probably not viable by itself, may need more testing or may work better if mixed with an existing offer.

Yes, I've seen other posts where people say that if you can't afford the $1,000 Visa/MC fee you probably shouldn't bother starting an adult site. And in theory I can see why this makes sense. But because it's next to impossible to get actual sales figures on adult sites there is no way to predict how long it might take to recoup start-up costs, so keeping costs low at the beginning seems like a prudent plan.

And if one of the credit cards is more popular than the other it seems like starting with one, then adding the other once you see actual sales coming in, is a reasonable business model for a new site.

Also, does offering only one card as a payment option, say MasterCard, really hurt sales? Seems like most people who have a MC will also have a Visa and will just use that if they really want the porn.

thats a big assumption.
a lot of countries dont use cc's all that often (in europe they arent used that often)

so my 2 cents, yes you will lose sales. Its not a monhtly fee of 500$. so unless you expect there is a risk you are not going to make any sales, then just getting it should be worth it

Yes, according to our statistics Visa is used more than Mastercard.
Visa is more common among US customisers, and mastercard is used more in Europe ( in the past MC was called Eurocard).
The ratio of sales is usually 60% by 40% in favor of a Visa.

And whether it is necessary to pay and how much depends on the acquiring bank. you should ask your acquiring bank about this. Because you can not directly connect to Visa and Mastercard.

There are no fees with Bill with Bill

Bill is powered by Verotel and once you have volume, you can create a Verotel account and pay less in terms of your processing rate.

With Verotel; the annual fee is EUR 500 for MasterCard (Approximately USD $617). There currently is not a fee yet for us with Visa as we operate from Amsterdam (EU). With Verotel the fee is only charged your first year and is paid by us for subsequent years as long as you process a minimum of EUR 100/week (USD $123).

Verotel gives you the ability to accept all major credit cards, direct debit EU and Bitcoin. We also provide our merchants with tools for affiliates and will also pay your affiliates directly, eliminating any extra legwork on your side. We are also NATS compatible if you want to take it a step further.

Skype and email are in my signature, hit me up if you would like to discuss this further.

Remember, Tangibles, "Adult" Toys and DVDs, are not "risk" because they are delivered to the customer by Post, USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, or whatever (other) delivery services are used in your country.

If you want to inquire about anything, inquire about Tangible vs Digital. You might need separate sub-accounts, you might need separate main accounts. "Not risk" could and should mean no "annual fee," as well as a more normal rate as well, around 4%.

Including being able to use PayPal, Square, Amazon Wallet, Google (wallet?)...

CCBill. Separate subaccounts, because of the separate processing fees. Normal (high) for digital higher risk, lower for tangible.

Affiliate is separate subaccount from Client, or program sponsor, and Client has as many subaccts as you need for tangible, digital, various brands or projects, etc.
