Duplicate paragraphs in blog. Will this hurt SEO?

So i make a post on my front page. Picture, Description, and Links.
Instead of having my image link point to the gallery on the affiliates site, it goes to a page where i have the thumbnails shown. These then link to the full version on the affiliates site. This way i can have many more alt tags for google to look at. However, on the second page where the thumbnails are located, i copy/pasted in the description from the original post on my front page. Reason is, so when the surfer is playing with himself and looking at the full versions, he can read over the description and hopefully click some more tags.

Will this actually hurt my SEO for having duplicate paragraphs?

Maybe it works better, to only display the image on the front page, and save the description for the gallery page, or vice versa.
sorry for the long question. Thanks!

Hi Waramp...I wouldn't worrry. Duplicate paragraphs is a far cry from the duplicate content that Google is looking to penalize. Google says, "Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content." Two paragraphs are not "substantial," especially if they're on different pages...I think it's a great idea!

I agree with Mona. I've been doing the same thing as what you're saying for years and never had any problems with Google, but than again who the F*CK ever really knows when it comes to Google.

Well said ez12!

I always try to encourage people to think like the rocket scientists that Google employs So, what do they want? To deliver relevant results and to not to be screwed over by "clever" webmasters who discover tricks to alter those results.

So, they don't like seriously duplicate content because it's trying to mess with their well thought out algorithm...Duplicate content may be used to create tons and tons of "keyword rich" pages on one site, or to create lots of sites with the same "keyword rich" pages.

So, a duplicate paragraph to help your surfers out is hardly trying to screw Google over, but instead increasing the "usability" of your site!

If you're worried about it you could always put the first few sentences or even the first paragraph on the first page with a "...continue" or "...more" link that leads to the page with the thumbs on it. That way you're only repeating a fraction of the copy. This is a pretty common practice. It also helps with keeping the main page more focused and too long.
