The ONLY thing the Republicunts have against it is that the Democrats are for it. Kind of like you, apparently. Name one thing wrong with the bill.

The bill is a bail out of the city unions.

They will bring up a new bill next month without the union bail outs and with some changes and it will pass then.

Also, the average settlement was 1.2 million and they agreed not to ask for more money from the Gov't or insurance companies. They signed the contract and took the money and now want to take more money.

There's also 60,000 claims and 4.3 billion won't go that far.

I've had some great insurance in my life, mostly while being in a union. I would like to know more about why the insurance is not paying for these problems and putting it off on the taxpayers. As for the bill, pass it, we need to take care of our own. But insurance companies for firefighters and Cops and aid workers should be better

Now if we can stop support of all these foreign nations that don't like us

Everyone thinks there insurance is great until they end up with some type of serious chronic condition or something that costs major bucks. Insurance companies don't care who you are they will pull the rug out from under you if it means better profits, just like any corporation. Not to mention that even if they keep paying sometimes just the out of pocket stuff can bankrupt you.

funny how no one commented on this so far, love these one sided arguments.

EEveryone thinks it's just a simple deal of giving healthcare to some dying first responders... it isn't, that's just the spin on it to demonize anyone who won't vote for it.

All of you go read the legislation as proposed and get back to the thread, it's filled with bullshit.

How about an article/section or page/line of what you consider bullshit?

TheSenator 12-19-2010 10:29 AM

I just finish eating some tofu and doing yoga. Also, just read through this thread and Vendzilla is towing the line, Gleem picking up the rear and in a surprising turn of events Baddog has some actual content as oppose to his witty one liners.

Gonna grab some organic popcorn and see how this plays out.

did you read the 150+ pages of both versions of the bill? i've read the summaries, no mention of unions. did a search for any provisions re: unions in the actual bills, no mention there.

could you point me to the provisions re: union bail outs? thx in advances.

I think the final version is only 122 pages, but I do not even see the word "union" used even once. It must be a code word or something.

(3) RULES OF CONSTRUCTION -- Nothing in this title shall be construed to affect, modify, or relieve any obligations under a worker's compensation law or plan, other work-related injury or illness benefit plan of an employer, or any health insurance plan.

gleem 12-19-2010 11:04 AM

Ok, I mis-spoke about being filled with bullshit, last time they tried to pass I thought they attached it to a ridiculous spending bill, but it wasn't. The bill has been tried to pass in various versions for 4 years now with crap in and crap taken out.

The history of the bill

Las time the Dems used retarded rules to bring it to the floor in a way that it couldn't be debated on or amended making it difficult to pass and in a way that would piss off the Repubes just so they could run around and point fingers saying the Repubes are hearless bastards, which they did when it didn't pass:

Quote:

07-29-2010:
Democrats would have been able to pass the bill if they used the normal procedure, but they brought it up as a "suspension bill," which needs a two-thirds vote to pass because it can't be amended
Even Bloomberg was pissed at Dems:

Quote:

Mayor Bloomberg slammed the failure, calling it "outrageous," and blaming both sides.

"It was wrong for the overwhelming majority of Republicans to vote against the bill, and it was wrong for Democrats to bring the bill to the floor under rules that made passage so much more difficult," he said.

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...xzz18a7hNU Oo

And the real problem is the handling of the cash as usual, a black hole with out accountability and probably funding all kinds of stuff like more bureaucracy and projects that have nothing to do with 9/11 first responders:

Quote:

One of the most significant concerns about this bill is its continued reliance on the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to administer 9/11 health programs. NIOSH has sent $475 million in grants to New York to pay for health care benefits. Yet to this day, NIOSH, the city of New York and the various health care providers who received grants have failed to tell Congress where that money has gone. For example, Mount Sinai Medical Center has received about $137 million from NIOSH since 2004.
Saving me the time to type it from a commenter on another article, the argument against is:

No one wants to hold back medical care and compensation from 9/11 first responders, but probably 90 percent of this money isn't going to them. Instead its being directed to hospital bailouts, union thugs and bigwigs (but I repeat myself) and other wasteful spending. The people against are speaking for the vast majority of Americans who are tired of throwing money at New York and seeing it disappear into a rat hole. 9/11 responders support? Of course. Union bigs and politicos using the 9/11 responders as an excuse for more wasteful and corrupt spending? No way.

Just another payout and money scam by our politicians to spread $8 billion dollars to campaign supporters, family members and their own biz interests on the back of 9/11 survivors.

If they are so concerned about these heroes, where the fuck is the memorial for 9/11, what did they do with all the handwritten notes, momentous and other memorials that were on the iconic fence after 9/11 (locked up and some thrown away) , 10 years later nothing... open your eyes, if they cared they would just give them each their portion of the 8 billion and call it a day. wake up. This is the usual cash grab!

One last time in case the words above are too many words for you to read:
THIS IS JUST A CASH GRAB IN THE NAME OF 9/11 HEROES WITH NO ACCOUNTABILITY OF WHERE THE CASH IS SPENT

It is laughable that this is the one time the Republicans are concerned with oversight of funds. They did not seem too concerned when $9 billion was lost in Iraq.

Again, it is only because the Democrats want to pass it that they are being dicks. If the filibuster ends, the bill passes . . . as it should.

My point is that this is getting shoved thru in a lame duck session, where was this when it was needed? Now that it's a lame session, they are pushing it thru and with little to no debate and pulling at everyone's heart strings.
We have a democratic process and I want a good bill to get pushed thru so those that deserve it get it.

Remember this happened 9 years ago and they are now pushing this thru in a lame duck session, no time for debate, polarizing government politics. If it's a good bill, then why are they not all voting for it?

The Republicans started the cash grab under Bushy with the wars and then the last minute "oh wait, before we leave" TARP bullshit, and the Democrats are just accelerating the money party, they have the same goals, to take money from taxpayers and use that money to enrich their campaign supporters, their family, and to ensure they stay in power as long as possible.

So if one party wants accountability just to fuck over the party, I'll take it since that's the only time either sides cash grab has a chance to be seen for what it is..

BFT3K 12-19-2010 11:31 AM

I'm pretty sure this bill was introduced in September, so it is not really a "last minute - lame duck session" item. It has been around for almost 4 months now, but because it was introduced by the Dems, and the Repubs decided to oppose EVERYTHING that the Dems wanted, it was rejected by the right.

Most of this shit would have already passed if the political divide wasn't so retarded.

EVERY one of these "lame duck" bills will pass next year, when the righties can take credit for them.

Next year the START treaty, the first responders health care, a form of the DREAM act - everything will likely make it through, one way or the other.

Where did I say I was against the bill? I wanted to know why we needed it?
Shouldn't the healthcare reform law take care of it?

But I have to ask some questions about it, sorry for not trusting the government, I mean we had healthcare reform, why is that not taking care of it, you know the healthcare law that had over 200 companies and unions get a wavier to stay out of for a while?

Does it really matter who passes it? Obama will get credit, look at Clinton, everyone loves him, but remember, he dropped bombs on Iraq the day before the vote on his impeachment, delaying the vote to give him time.
But no one remembers that......

Clinton came under intense criticism in 1998 by the GOP after he launched an attack on suspected terrorist targets in Afghanistan and Sudan. Intelligence indicated bin Laden and his top associates were meeting at a training camp when U.S. missiles were fired at it, just weeks after al Qaeda terrorists bombed U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

The attack was launched on the same day Lewinsky, a former White House intern, wrapped up her testimony before a grand jury investigating whether Clinton lied under oath about their relationship or encouraged anyone else to do so.
