I am not a fan of Cristal at all and I do like champagne, for my taste Krug is a clear winner.

While that is true, if I ask a 12 year old his opinion on the Israeli Palestinian conflict, blowjobs or shaving cream, it doesn't mean fuck all because he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Same with uneducated palates, if you have never tasted something before and have no idea what to expect, your opinion is completely worthless. It may be your opinion, but it doesn't MEAN anything.

Listen to yourself...

Why don't we just quit recommending anything to anyone. Next time someone asks for a new restaurant to eat at, be sure to tell them that you can't give then an opinion because they have an uneducated palate for the food they'll be eating thus your opinion makes no difference.

I'm sure it will be much appreciated that you've put them in check.

You are missing the point, entirely in your quest to bash on 'snobs'.

who needs a big hug from a bottle of cristal in here? i do

i love cristal, i always get this crisp apple flavor from it, maybe its just me but thats why i like it.

also love the pj

i have drank tons and tons of champagne over the years and i still think cristal is one of the better ones. i cant say its the best cause when you are at that price level pretty much all of them are pretty tasty. just comes down to your tastes, if you drink it a lot you will develop reasons to why you prefer one over the other. in the end who cares, drink what you like.

i fucking love miller high life and thats a shit beer, but its the champagne of beers!!

The problem is.. that its all too subjective, if you've never eaten fois gras or truffles, and you don't appreciate what you are eating, some might be tempted to say that they taste like shit. Jimmy's point is that perhaps someone who maybe only likes Applebees Steak, may not be qualified to say if the food they are eating at The French Laundry is good or not. Its all about appreciating the subtleties. That's not to say that Applebees is bad, but at the French Laundry, you are paying the difference for what you hope is food on another level. Whether the person's palate gets that, is up to that individual.

I'm calling you a liar.

Unless you prove it by inviting me out for some Cristal.

Fake snobs... and no, I didn't miss the point, I answered the OP request for an opinion, like others.

I don't care that you think the opinion isn't valid because the person may not have tasted it and thus could like it. We're all very aware that people have different tastes.... I'm more than sure people sharing the opinions do not need need to be informed of such frivolous details or... have the opinions they gave questioned by, fake snobs on gfy.

chaze 01-24-2011 03:29 PM

I prefer a dom perignon from the early 90's but it's not bad.

I can't tell if you are agreeing with me or not.

The problem is we talking about opinions... and opinions are subjective all around.

I'm pretty sure the OP has had good champagne's before. So we're not recommending the local tailor trash ho to upgrade from Apple bees to Charlie Trotter and asking for an educated opinion and expecting to get one.

Here's a good book by Jay McInerney. The champagne chapters start on page 45. The Cult of Krug, which starts on page 64, is a must read.

just spray bourbon on bitches

ungratefulninja 01-24-2011 10:14 PM

I'm not a champagne expert but I did buy a bottle and didn't really enjoy it. I literally poured half of it down the drain a couple days later. I don't need to be "educated" on champagne to know I didn't enjoy it.

Give me some Milagro Select Barrel Reserve Anejo for half the price any day :)

Krug is awesome. All the other houses say, "Krug and ours are the best". Any of the tête de cuvée are works of art though.
