I know I will :) I have been there several times over the past year and each time I didn't want to leave.

I know :) I have already sussed several paths to downtown SF from the house. Personally, the ferry right across is pretty neat and it means I don't have to go to Oakland for the BART.

brassmonkey 03-04-2011 01:51 PM

have gay ole time :)

there's an outside bar/restaurant at that alameda ferry landing that's a total blast!

Sarah_Jayne 03-04-2011 04:16 PM

Good tip...I will have to check it out.

Good luck on the move back to your home country. I know you are leaving for other reasons but the way the UK is going atm I think a lot more people are gonna start to leave the UK

Sarah_Jayne 03-04-2011 06:32 PM

I've driven by that place several times. Maybe worth having a Bay Area webmaster meetup sometime?

Probably but San Fran isn't exactly short of foodie spots.

Elli 03-04-2011 06:51 PM

That's quite a change, Sarah! Good luck with the move and I hope all goes smoothly for you. We'll keep your seat warm here :)

HBKKH 03-04-2011 06:56 PM

your weather situation shall improve greatly.

Moving from an overpriced place to another overpriced place shouldn't be too much of a culture shock at all :upsidedow.

The only shock you might get you don't get in London is the odd earthquake :)

Good luck Sarah, I don't think you'll find it as hard as you think. Living in Scotland all my life till I was 25 then 3 different places in the last 2.5 years, I have adjusted to each place pretty well.

just wondering, why YOU let videosboard.com DIE completely?

It's fucking dead, same as thinkreel.

Any ideas why?

Yup, another big change for sure. I have felt two Earthquakes in the UK since moving here but I am sure they were total babies compared to what is in my future.

Noticed many homeless in San Francisco

Just out of curiosity, how does this kind of turmoil affect pension benefits? None of us are getting any younger and I know that the bullshit thing called the EU purports to allow "transition of pension contributions from member state to member state" but in reality, that's bullshit - 10 years of contribs in the UK == 3 years contribs in France. So how does the moving back to the US affect you in that area?

I know most UK have private pensions, and US too, but are they flexible like that or will you end up with 20GBP here and 20USD there per month etc when the time comes....

In all honesty, I am not really sure. I have calls to make in the next week to sort out taxes here and that sort of thing. I am hoping that leaves me with a better idea.

Welcome back! But be cautious! If you're a smoker, do not order a pack as an English person would in San Francisco, keep it American!:

...'fags' are a very different thing in SF!

grumpy 03-05-2011 05:42 AM

I was just in San Francisco for the first time a month or so ago and fell in love with it. I stayed in San Bruno and their little downtown area had so many restaurant choices it took me an hour walking up and down the street trying to decide. I finally settled on the most authentic Korean BBQ I've ever seen and it was fantastic. I can seriously see myself moving there in the next year or so...

Careful...that is how it all started for me. I visited a friend that had moved there a few years ago and the city never really left my head.

Not to worry, we had great vindaloo in Oakland for lunch today, about 10 minutes off the island. My neighbor is a bona fide Cockney, so he's got the scoop on the decent curry houses in the area.

Excellent..I am going to miss my British people too. So, I am actually going to go to an ex-pat British meetup thing in the city. I am a British citizen, I qualify :)
