Foxnews is already fear mongering that .xxx will open the floodgates for porn.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/...m-headed-home/

So on the one hand they are factually wrong and on the other hand they are fear mongering.
Yay... :disgust

i rarely wish harm on anyone, but I am thinking bad thoughts about Stuart right now.

amazing how ICANN is suppose to have only introduce this shit if the community it involved wanted it, and no one wanted it. I wonder how much those who voted for it were paid off.

More than half that voted apparently. :2 cents:

This doesn't change a thing..... Does it?
Other than big sites might want to but the xxx-version of their domainname.

BareBacked 03-18-2011 11:57 AM

So where do we go to secure our .coms with .xxx 's?

iamtam 03-18-2011 11:57 AM

the lawyers are on speed dial. lets see how long it takes for an injunction.

Who is the fucking moron who wrote that??? Talk about NO clue about what you are writing about:
"A Warning to Parents, .XXX and a Pornography Boom May Be Headed for Your Home"

" As if that were not enough, pornographers are poised to expand their reach immensely."

"For years, concerned parents have been fighting this development, as it will only make this material even more accessible to children. So now they can lure your children with “playwithcarly.com” and “playwithcarly.xxx.”

And it wouldn't be "news" with out a politic dig at the "other" party.

" But this week, President Obama is concerned about another type of madness: March Madness. "

The guy took probably 5 minutes to make the picks, but everyone who hates him has played this one into the ground like he locked himself in the oval office for weeks studying his picks and ignoring everything else.

the world is full of idiots.

Jdoughs 03-18-2011 12:00 PM

Someone register PlayWithCarly.com and put up meatspin.

She started off speaking sanely, then went to the dark side and voted for. I would copy over her statement, but right now, the transcriber is still running.

HA lol PlayWithCarly.com is available... would be funny if someone registered it and then put up a page mentioning how the person who wrote that article is a miss informed dumbass.

Did anyone really expect it not to pass? Still lame though.

Serge Litehead 03-18-2011 12:05 PM

i don't see it ever or at the very least any time soon becoming mandatory though. for one thing it is a Sponsored TLD, for another it would require some global level enforcement.

oh? visa and mastercard come down tomorrow and say they will not process for adult unless they are on .xxx do you not think that is effectively manditory?

spazlabz 03-18-2011 12:14 PM

this is like a punch in the gut.... Can't the US Government mandate the use of .xxx for adult related sites by passing a law?

Right. And the cost to purchase the equivalent .xxx for your domain will be just slightly less than it would cost to litigate to get it.

This is an unabashed and Mafia style shake down of the whole industry.

Pipecrew 03-18-2011 12:30 PM

This is the first time Icann has gone against the "Government Advisory Committee" in a decision.. Interesting

i don't see how it can work without introduction of new laws and regulations first. and i don't see how could a law require use of a SPONSORED top level domain name

SiMpLe 03-18-2011 12:32 PM

I foresee thousands of new .xxx tube sites lol

Why do those stupid think that we porn site owners want to get all the kids in our sites? Just looking at the business standpoint is pretty clear that we want the parents and their credit cards, not the kids.

Can't wait until Google decides that .xxx domains are more relevant in porn searches or such crap. You know what's coming next. Same as always.

Wow, I somehow wasn't thinking about it but from logical point of view this is very likely to happen.
