It seems that you know this matter very good. Yes, in Serbia most of hardware was saved and fake equipment was bombed. (although later, all that hardware was destroyed by Serbs and their government through policy of disarmament). Anyways, Gaddafi don't have s300 . If they have it NATO wouldn't even try anything. As usually, always attacking only weaker . Why they didn't do something in South Ossetia?

I tend to agree with you that Libya does not possess the s300. At this stage its hard to be sure what missile system took it down, but my thinking is it was the SA-3 Goa. Now over the years the libyans have developed the SA-3 Goa with more advanced electronics, so its a waste of time talking about the old original version of the system. The conflict had been going on for a few days so this gave the libyans time to map out the various flight paths of the western planes and make some projections on where to place several SA-3 Goa systems. They would have also used spotters who probably communicated via laid down tempory wires to avoid being detected by the Americans. Im guessing the libyans must have had their radar operating on very long wavelengths. They cant keep these things on long or they will get a missille down their throat from the americans. They will just operate for the smallest of brief periods for a window of opportunity. Picking up the F-15 is not easy, so Im thinking they might have picked up a radar signature through by open bomb-bay door. Whats happened next is that the libyans have laid down a path of missiles using several SA-3 and that one of these missiles has got within the proximity fuze range. The detonation has caused a very extreme particle cloud which has interfered with the planes online electronics/mechanics. Now, particle clouds normally dont take down aircraft, every day thousands of aircraft fly through particle clouds all over the world, but the type of particle cloud created by the detonation from these missiles will take down a jet fighter. Sometime, even most of the time the plane can make it back to base safe, but in this case the damage was enough causing the crew to evacuate the down. Its possible on the way down that the plane on closer to the ground also got hit directly by another missile. Now, if the Americans start talking about the plane suffering mechanical problems due to a particle cloud, then 100% that plane was taken out by a missile. In the end, we just may never really now.
