It is a copy, even if it doesn't look like it... otherwise you couldn't request a copy of your original, and they couldn't stamp it and cert that it's real without the real one to copy.

Edit: You can request a new cert (with proof of course) from the local Courthouse, Hospital or State if they can not find the record. One of the 3 appear to be the keepers of certs for those of us born normally.

As I heard it reported...the President actually had to twist some arms to get his long form birth certificate...as the state he was born in only issues a Certificate of Live Birth and it is in fact illegal for anyone...including the person whose birth is involved...to be issued a long form birth certificate.
